Statements from Michelle Wu, MassDem Chair Gus Bickford, Congressman Joe Kennedy, III.

Statement from Boston City Councilor At-Large and Mayoral Candidate Michelle Wu Regarding Joe Biden and Kamala Harris Presidential Election Win

Boston, MA— “This election, we the people proved nothing will stop us from making our voices heard and our votes counted, despite an ongoing pandemic and the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression.

On Election Day, I visited polling sites across the city and was so inspired by the energy for change in Boston. Voters came together across race and place in record numbers to take back our democracy.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris winning this presidential election is just the first step. Cities have a responsibility to use the momentum from this moment to deliver real, systemic change.

I’m running for Mayor because Boston can lead this change by laying the groundwork for an equitable COVID-19 recovery, delivering on a city Green New Deal, and closing the racial wealth gap. We already have the resources, activism and the ideas. We just need the bold, urgent leadership that matches the needs of our communities at the scale and the urgency that people are facing.”

Statement from Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Gus Bickford on President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice Presidential-Elect Kamala Harris.

"A decent man was elected to be President of the United States.  By electing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, we chose compassion, competency and dignity.  Our President-Elect and Vice President-Elect will heal our country, help our nation recover from the pandemic, advance racial equity and implement a plan for environmental justice.  I am proud that the tens of thousands of calls we made to Pennsylvania helped flip the state and restore the soul of America."

We did it - Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have won and we all have survived Election Day*s*!

I’m sure your inbox and phone are flooded with messages right now, so I’ll keep it brief. I just want to say thank you. For everything you did to earn this victory.

I know you poured your sweat, tears, and heart into this fight. I know you felt the visceral pain of four years of Donald Trump -- and you channeled that into action, on behalf of your family and families you have never met. And I know you’re far from done.

You stood alongside countless other Americans and said: Enough. Not this. Not him.

You took your country back.

Next week, the work continues. Next week, we roll up our sleeves to make sure our Democratic agenda is as big and bold and progressive and inclusive as this country needs.

I’m in the fight and not leaving. I’m committed to building a fairer, kinder, brighter, and more just future for this generation and the next. I invite you to join me.

We’re gearing up for the runoffs in Georgia and beyond. To continue to make progress on this important work, instantly add your name to make an impact with my Leadership PAC.

More on all of that soon. However, today, we savor the victory and celebrate it.

Because you earned it.

With gratitude,

Joe
