Dear Friends of Greentown Labs,
With summer in full swing, we’re finding that people are eager to come together! It’s been a month full of exciting events at Greentown, which have convened folks from across the climatetech ecosystem to celebrate climatetech entrepreneurship, international collaboration, future climate leaders, and more.
We kicked off the month with a “Power Your Future” career day, co-hosted by our member Browning the Green Space, which brought more than 100 Boston-area high school students to Greentown HQ to learn about career paths in climatetech entrepreneurship! We were thrilled to have five of our members—AmpUp, Sublime Systems, QuantAQ, Cyvl.ai, and MoveEV—demonstrate their technologies, and to have participation from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, Enel X North America, Project Green Schools, Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology, Roxbury Community College’s Center for Smart Building Technology, Ameresco, and Xodus.
The following week, we turned our attention to offshore wind for an event in partnership with the Belgian Economic Trade Mission. We were honored to be joined by Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium and Governor Charlie Baker for the transatlantic partnership signing ceremonies and by industry experts who amplified advancements in the offshore wind energy industry, its environmental and economic benefits, lessons from abroad to apply to Massachusetts' developments, and more. Just last week, we held a special edition of our Greentown Houston Transition On Tap with the Veterans Advanced Energy Project and celebrated Juneteenth with the American Association of Blacks in Energy’s Greater Boston Chapter. In between all these exciting events, we had a couple of big announcements!- Dr. Barbara J. Burger—a transformational supporter of Greentown Labs who has played a pivotal role in advancing Houston’s energy innovation ecosystem throughout her career—has joined Greentown’s Board of Directors.
- The Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator has launched a novel green loan program, the Cleantech Debt Fund, to accelerate equitable climate action and support early-stage cleantech and climatetech startups. We are thrilled to be a partner on this program, which will make our startup members eligible to apply for funding.
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out if you want to get involved with or support our community. Thank you for your commitment to climate action!
Warmly, The Greentown Labs Team |

We welcomed 20 new startups to our community in Q2! These members are working on innovations as diverse as a solution to enhance oceans’ natural ability to capture CO2, biotechnologies to produce wood products without cutting down trees, and a turnkey development approach to waste-heat-to-power projects. Let us introduce you. |

Our spring Sector Pitch Day dove into three dimensions of the manufacturing industry that need decarbonization innovations and featured pitches from Greentown startups working in each. Check out a recap! |

Dear Friends of Greentown Houston,
Happy Pride Month! Greentown proudly stands with and supports the LGBTQIA2S+ members of our community and the broader climatetech ecosystem. Follow along on our social media as we highlight LGBTQIA2S+ climate leaders and organizations throughout the month!
June has gotten off to a great (and unreasonably hot) start here in Houston! We held an incredible kickoff event for Year 2 of the Carbon to Value Initiative, a multi-year collaboration among The Urban Future Lab (UFL), Greentown Labs, and the Fraunhofer USA TechBridge Program, supported by NYSERDA and in partnership with Cohort Champion Fluor Corporation. Weren’t able to attend? You can watch a recording of the program, including startup finalists’ pitches, here.
And this Thursday, June 16, we have a special Transition On Tap in partnership with The Veterans Advanced Energy Project! The evening will include networking and a panel featuring military veterans who have made the decision to enter the energy transition. We hope to see you there!
Greentown is also delighted to announce the appointment of Barbara J. Burger, Ph.D., former Vice President of Innovation and President of Chevron Technology Ventures, to our board of directors. Barbara has been a steadfast supporter of Greentown—and pivotal in our move to Houston—and we know her presence on the board will prove essential as we continue to grow this climate action community.
Lastly, while exciting things are always going on inside Greentown, we also have an exciting development outside of Greentown! If you happen by our east exterior wall, you will notice a new colorful mural entitled “Powering the Future Through Climatetech,” by the wonderful Hannah Bull. Watch a timelapse of the installation here!
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out if you want to get involved with or support our community. Thank you for your commitment to climate action!
