Executive Office of Economic Development Announces Zenobia Moochhala as Undersecretary of Business Strategies
BOSTON - Today, the Executive Office of Economic Development announced the appointment of Zenobia Moochhala as Undersecretary of Business Strategies. Moochhala is an entrepreneurial leader with a track record of building and scaling global, mission-driven consumer services and brings decades of experience in marketing, growth strategy, and product innovation.
“Zenobia is a dynamic and strategic leader who knows how to build, scale, and deliver. Her experience growing mission-driven companies and leading complex organizations makes her an exceptional fit for this role,” said Economic Development Secretary Eric Paley. “I’m excited to have her guiding our business strategies work and partnering across our agencies, quasi-governmental organizations, and private-sector stakeholders to drive long-term economic growth for Massachusetts.”
“Massachusetts is home to some of the world’s most innovative companies and brightest talent. I’m excited to bring my experience to state government and to work closely with the business community, our quasi partners, and the dedicated team at EOED,” said Undersecretary Moochhala. “Together, we can build on the Commonwealth’s strengths and create new opportunities for growth across every region.”
As Undersecretary of Business Strategies, Moochhala will oversee the Massachusetts Office of Business Development and work closely with quasi-governmental partners Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, MassVentures, and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center. She will also be responsible for the state’s tourism and international trade sectors through the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism and the Massachusetts Office of International Trade and Investment.
Moochhala is best known as co-founder of Care.com, where she was part of the executive leadership team that built the platform into the world’s largest online marketplace for families and caregivers. She led global marketing and growth strategy, overseeing consumer acquisition, engagement, and product marketing as the company expanded to more than 21 million members worldwide and completed a successful IPO in 2014.
Following her time at Care.com, Moochhala served as CEO of Sittercity, a Bright Horizons company, where she transformed the business post-acquisition to launch new services and strengthen the marketplace to better connect families and caregivers. She later became group vice president of marketing at Bright Horizons, leading the marketing team to drive utilization of much-needed education and care benefits for millions of covered employees.
Earlier in her career, Moochhala held key roles in consumer growth and product innovation at Upromise, supporting families preparing and saving for college. She also served as COO of Embark Veterinary, a leading canine genetics company, where she oversaw marketing and operations.
Recognized as one of the Boston Business Journal’s “40 Under 40,” a Pinnacle Award Emerging Executive by the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, and a recipient of the Asper Alumni Entrepreneurship Award from Brandeis University and the India New England Business & Entrepreneurship Award, Moochhala holds an M.A. in international economics and finance from Brandeis University and a B.A. in economics and statistics from St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai.
