Governor Baker appoints Mary Mahon McCauley Director of the Massachusetts Office on Disability

Governor Baker swears in Mary Mahon McCauley as Director of the Massachusetts Office on Disability

BOSTON – The Baker-Polito Administration today announced the appointment of Mary Mahon McCauley as Director of the Massachusetts Office on Disability (MOD), an Executive Branch agency that works to ensure that people with disabilities of all ages living or working in Massachusetts have full and equal participation in all aspects of life.

    

“Mary Mahon McCauley is a dedicated public servant who has devoted her career to expanding access and opportunity for individuals with disabilities,” said Governor Charlie Baker. “We look forward to her continued service to the Commonwealth and her leadership at MOD.”

    

“Mary Mahon McCauley’s experience, particularly assisting individuals with disabilities to secure employment, makes her a valuable asset to the Massachusetts Office on Disability,” said Lt. Governor Karyn Polito. “We know she will bring the same passion she has shown in her work to this important agency.”

    

“I am very excited about this new position as the Director of Massachusetts Office on Disability,” said Mary McMahon McCauley. “As a lifelong advocate for persons with disabilities, this position is both a privilege and an honor. I am looking forward to being part of a team whose focus is equal access and awareness of individuals with and without disabilities.”

   

MOD, an agency of the Executive Office for Administration and Finance, provides training on disability non-discrimination, administers the Municipal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) grant program, and helps Executive Branch agencies comply with the ADA and related disability rights laws, among its other support services.

    

“For over 30 years, Mary has been a tireless advocate for children, youth and adults with disabilities,” said Administration and Finance Secretary Michel J. Heffernan. “Through her work, she has been a stalwart for the expansion of access and opportunity and I am confident that her leadership will help propel an already strong agency into the future.”

  

McCauley succeeds David D’Arcangelo, who is now Commissioner of the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind.

    

About Mary Mahon McCauley:

   

Mary Mahon McCauley has served at the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) since 1989, most recently as its Area Director for Downtown Boston. In her numerous roles at MRC, she has worked on vocational rehabilitation and job placement for persons with disabilities. During her career, she has worked with hundreds of individuals in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. In 2008 she was honored with the Thomas J. Carroll Award for Employment as the Blind Employee of the Year for demonstrating the highest degree of excellence.

     

A resident of Quincy, she holds a Bachelor’s degree, as well as a Master’s of Education degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, from the University of Massachusetts Boston. She is also a Licensed Rehabilitation Counselor. She was a group facilitator for the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired for 17 years. McCauley currently sits on the MassHire Boston Workforce Committee and previously served on the City of Quincy Disability Commission.
