Asian Americans Advancing Justice – AAJC Applauds Bipartisan Amendment for Broadband Access Funding in FAA Reauthorization Bill
More Than 23 million
Households Could Be Affected by Outcome of the Upcoming Vote
Washington D.C — Asian Americans
Advancing Justice | AAJC (Advancing Justice – AAJC) welcomes and
supports the bipartisan efforts behind the inclusion of critical funding for
broadband access in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization
bill.
This amendment proposes $6 billion in funding
for Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which
was established in 2021 as part of the Infrastructure and Jobs Act.
The ACP plays a critical role in ensuring that internet services remain affordable
and accessible for low-income households across the United States. With
more than 23 million households enrolled, the Affordable Connectivity
Program is the most successful broadband program to exist in U.S history.
“With limited time remaining, it is vital to secure the future
of Affordable Connectivity Program and prevent the 23 million
households enrolled from being disconnected,” said John C. Yang, Advancing Justice –
AAJC’s president and executive director. “The ACP has
become a lifeline for many, bridging the digital divide and enabling
participation in education, employment, healthcare, and other critical
services. Without continued funding for the program, millions of families
will face the burden of exorbitant internet bills, forcing them to make
challenging financial choices.”
Support from Senators Ben Luján, Steve Daines, Peter Welch, JD
Vance, Jacky Rosen, and Roger Wicker on this vital amendment has
been essential in keeping the funding hopes alive for the
Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Affordable Connectivity
Program.
