波士頓第一夜將於6月30日拉下幃幕，揮手告別，走入歷史。
波士頓第一夜這私營非牟利組織創立於1976年，該機構行政主任Geri Guardino在6月21日時發出公開信，說明董事會最近投票決定，停止運作，結束37年歷史。
她指出，過去幾年來的大環境經濟狀況，對該機構形成嚴峻挑戰，她們的商業模式已無法維持下去。她們希望第一夜精神能夠延續下去，並在不久的將來重獲新生。第一夜希望把他們的商標轉交給波士頓市政府，以俾市府能協助該機構找到一個組織，承接第一夜這品牌，並能最終製作出一場活動，至少延續一部份第一夜的慶祝元素。
波士頓市每年7月4日的煙花及蜆殼劇場音樂會，由於CBS電視台和煙花節目製作人未能達成協議，將於今年首度停止全美轉播。波士頓地區仍將於WBZ第4台轉播。
Dear Artists, Supporters and Friends,
On behalf of the Board and Staff of First Night Boston, and with a heavy heart, I am writing to let you know that First Night will cease operations on June 30, 2013. The Board of Directors recently voted to cease operations for the private non-profit organization that has produced 37 First Night Festivals since it was founded in 1976. The last several years have become increasingly challenging for us, and our business model is no longer sustainable.
We all hope that the spirit of First Night will live on and that the First Night Festival will be reinvented in the not so distant future. This cherished Boston tradition has most certainly been one of the City’s signature events for decades. First Night hopes to transfer its Trademark to the City of Boston so that the City can help us identify an organization that can assume the First Night brand and eventually produce an event that contains at least some of the elements of a First Night celebration.
Everyone at First Night extends its thanks to you for being a part of our celebration of the arts and community. Our artists and volunteers, our public and private supporters, our sponsors, our cultural and community partners and the millions of revelers who joined us on New Year’s Eve over the years. We couldn’t have done it without you, and we will miss you.
