華人前進會上週六在昆士小學飯堂召開社區會議，報告地方發展計劃為社區帶來的工作機會近況。

            華人前進會組織主任陳秀珍在會中先和出席者分享了過去十五年來，華埠內住宅單位變化情況。她指出，西元2000年以前，大部分華埠內的住宅都是可負擔住宅。現在，住宅單位增加了將近一倍，但大都是市價出租的房屋，或豪華住宅。發展商們向社區承諾，要為社區帶來工作機會及經濟發展好處。

            全食超市（Whole Foods Market）和社區達成協議，明年一月在南端區的墨水塊（Ink Bloc）開張時，將會和社區分享他們的聘用過程。

華人前進會工人中心的余翠鳳和沈羅琳分享了該報告。十月時，全食超市針對華人社區舉辦了一場雙語說明會。有651人申請，517人在十月十二日那週面試。157人已進入第二階段面試。

全食超市指出，那些未能進入第二輪面試者所面對的主要障礙是他們未通過基本英語測驗，能夠工作的時段有限，或者是面對“為什麼想在全食超市工作”這問題時，回答的不好。

, 全食超市下週還將繼續辦理面試，在每一輪面試之後，都會向社區報告結果。全食超市也承諾在每一輪面試時，都提供翻譯。

華人前進會營運主任劉衛恒和出席者分享了羅氏兄弟超市（Roche Bros.）的聘用計劃。

羅氏兄弟預定于2015年二月在波士頓城中開張一家新店。申請者必須經由網站申請 www.rochebros.com。羅氏兄弟將於十一月十日至十四日的早上十點至下午六點，以及十五日的週六早上九點至下午三點，在靠近梅西百貨（Macy’s）的費林百貨（Filene’s）舊址夏日街十號，舉辦招聘會，說明有哪些工作機會，以及相關福利等。會場內將備有電腦，供人們上網申請工作，也會有翻譯。該公司將來會繼續辦招聘，但只有那個禮拜現場會有翻譯服務。

BOSTON – November 6, 2014 – MassHousing Executive Director Thomas R. Gleason has been elected President of the Board of Directors of the National Council of State Housing Agencies (NCSHA). 

NCSHA is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization created by the nation's state Housing Finance Agencies (HFAs) more than 30 years ago to coordinate and leverage their federal advocacy efforts for affordable housing. NCSHA represents its members in Washington before Congress, the Administration, and the several federal agencies concerned with housing, including the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Department of Agriculture, and the Treasury, and with other advocates for affordable housing. 

“I am honored to be elected by my fellow Directors as President of this highly effective national organization,’’ said Gleason. “We will be working closely with the federal government and our elected officials to develop and incorporate new and innovative ways to finance single-family and multi-family housing in these changing financial times.’’ 

Gleason, whose career in affordable housing spans more than 36 years, has been Executive Director of MassHousing since 2001. He has previously served as Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer of the NCSHA Board of Directors and received an Impact Award from NCSHA in 2008 for his work on an affinity agreement with Fannie Mae, which provides Housing Finance Agencies access to Fannie Mae programs at favorable terms and makes more affordable home loans available to moderate-income homebuyers. 

Gleason is a member of Fannie Mae’s National Customer Advisory Board and a former member of Fannie Mae’s Affordable Housing Advisory Council. He also serves on the Boards of the Massachusetts Housing Investment Corporation, the Community Economic Development Assistance Corporation and as a member of the Mortgage Roundtable of the National Association of Home Builders. 

In its 48-year history, MassHousing has provided more than $17 billion for affordable housing, 60% ($10 billion) of which of which has been provided during Gleason’s tenure as CEO. MassHousing has helped more than 78,000 low and moderate-income families buy or refinance their home. MassHousing has a multi-family loan portfolio of more than 500 apartment communities valued at more than $3.1 billion. The Agency also operates its own mortgage insurance fund and services its own single-family loan portfolio which has more than 21,000 loans valued at over $3.8 billion. 

“We are excited to have Tom Gleason at the helm of NCSHA at a time that is so important to the future of affordable housing and the HFA delivery system,’’ said NCSHA Executive Director Barbara Thompson. “Tom has already contributed so much to NCSHA as an outstanding member of its leadership for many years and as an exemplary head of MassHousing. Gleason was elected President at NCSHA’s recent Annual Conference in Boston along with other officers of the Board of Directors, including: Vice President Grant S. Whitaker of the Utah Housing Corporation; Secretary/Treasurer Ralph M. Perrey of the Tennessee Housing Development Agency; and At-Large Executive Committee Member Mary Tingerthal of Minnesota Housing.

加州华裔新移民刘云平当选美国国会众议员

3岁随父母来自台湾的第一代新移民刘云平在11月4日的美国中期选举中，成功当选美国国会众议员。选举日当晚刘云平在家人和选区 现任国会议员的陪同下，在选票确定超过竞争对手后，在现场支持者的欢呼声中宣布当选。成为加州首位当选联邦众议员的华裔新移民。 

4日晚，选举投票截止后，支持者们陆续来到了刘云平的选举之夜活动场地，由于选前预测刘云平的胜选几率较高，当地主流媒体的转播车和摄像、采访记者都提前来到在现场。随着选票的统计结果，刘云平的得票一直都保持在53%左右。

到了9多钟，主流媒体已经陆续开始现场采访刘云平，请他谈谈当选后的感想和工作计划。刘云平则在太太和两个儿子的陪同下接受采访。这时，洛杉矶市市长贾西提也赶来现场向刘云平全家表示祝贺。

到了晚上约11点钟的时候，刘云平在太太的陪伴下，再次出现的支持者的面前，媒体一拥而上争相记录这一具有历史价值的一刻。在选区现任国会议员Henry Waxman夫妇的陪同下，刘云平走上讲台后向在场的支持者和媒体宣布当选。欢呼声和闪光灯此时交相辉映。

刘云平表示，宣战8个多月以来，不仅有选区内选民的支持，更离不开家人、精选团队和义工的帮助。进入国会后将在新移民政策、环境保护等方面做出自己的努力。他还逐一感谢了家人、朱选团队、义工工作人员团队。

在简短致词后，他走下讲台、和父亲刘天擎、母亲丘继聪、妻子詹碧琪、儿子、弟弟刘中平一起合影留念，并接受了妈妈的祝贺拥抱，场面温馨、感人。随后他不断与各族裔的支持者交谈、合影，整个现场气氛热烈。

与刘云平居住在同一城市的美国华人公共外交促进会会长任向东表示，认识刘云平的朋友都会感受到他的谦卑和优秀，虽然选区内华人稀少，但是刘云平的成功，再一次证明，抛开族裔的自我局限，华裔新移民同样可以获得平等的参政机会，而鼓励和支持优秀的华裔参政是一条增加华裔政治影响力更为行之有效的途径。

Will manage day-to-day business incubator

BOSTON – Today Mayor Martin J. Walsh announced the City of Boston has released a Request for Proposal (RFP) to operate the Roxbury Innovation Center that will be housed in the new Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building in Dudley Square. The RFP calls for an operator to provide a business incubator in the 3,350 square foot center, which would encourage collaboration, bold thinking, and new business development. The RFP also includes a request for community programming services in the building’s common areas. The Patrick Administration, through the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, has committed $150,000 to support the operation of the Center and programming in the building. 

“The Roxbury Innovation Center will launch new businesses and drive economic development from inside the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building that will spread into the surrounding community,” said Mayor Walsh. “The business incubator will attract local and new talent to the area to boost long-term economic health and wealth creation in Dudley Square, Roxbury, and beyond.”

"Innovation is the key to job growth in every community in the Commonwealth," said Governor Deval Patrick. "I am excited for this new development in Dudley Square and proud to offer Mayor Walsh our support to make it happen."

The RFP calls for the Roxbury Innovation Center to include such assets as: business incubator space; co-working space; mentoring and coaching resources and programs; formal and informal meeting space; shared resources to facilitate communication and idea generation; and common Wi-Fi, workstations, and other systems and facilities to support and accelerate small business creation and development.

The Roxbury Innovation Center will be located on the second floor of the Bolling Building, which is slated to open in the first quarter of 2015. The selected operator will have access to shared conference rooms, two kitchenette spaces, and after hour building access. The initial lease will be for five years, with an option to renew for an additional five years.

The Community Programming Services RFP calls for an imaginative and ambitious individual or nonprofit entity to maximize the use of the multitude of community spaces inside the Bolling Building. The goal is to activate areas such as meeting rooms, the lobby, and the roof deck with programming that fosters the community’s innovation network, supports the local idea economy, and that will benefit and bring in the surrounding Roxbury community.

A Proposers’ Conference to answer any questions will be held November 13, 2014 at 6:00 p.m., at 22 Warren Street, Roxbury. Proposals are due December 3, 2014.

Mayor Walsh announced plans for the Roxbury Innovation Center during his Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce speech in April 2014. In July 2014, a Request for Ideas (RFI) to gauge interest in the innovation community for programming the location was released and 16 applications were received in response. The Statements of Interest and other information gathered from the RFI process have informed this Request for Proposals (RFP); however, there is no formal connection between participation in the RFI process and in this RFP.

About the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building

The Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building is slated to open in the first quarter of 2015, and incorporates the Ferdinand Furniture Building, the Curtis Block and the Waterman & Sons building, into a new state of the art facility. The six-story building will house an estimated 500 municipal employees from Boston Public Schools and feature office space, as well as open space for student work, school events, and community gatherings. The building will also include 18,000 square feet of street-level space, and the 3,350 square foot Roxbury Innovation Center.

The City of Boston’s $115 million investment in the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building has spurred private investment across Dudley Square. The building is a collaboration between the City of Boston’s Property and Construction Management Department, and the Boston Redevelopment Authority working closely with the community and historic preservationists. The Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building was designed by Mecanoo architecten and Sasaki Associates. Shawmut Design and Construction served as the CM at-Risk contractor, with project management services being handled by PMA Consultants.

    此次座谈的牵线人，UCT国际文化发展中心总裁李依凌女士表示，这次山西老陈醋走进哈佛意义不凡，对中美两国文化遗产的交流必将带来积极推动的作用。
有些在哈佛和附近大学访学和上学的山西老乡，特意赶来出席此次活动，在异国他乡感受家乡的“味道”。一些前来听讲的哈佛师生表示，听了郭先生的演讲之后，有了一种希望能到山西走走看看，切身感受中国醋文化的冲动，郭俊陆为此表示热烈欢迎。

孫琰當選羅德島州東格林威治鎮學校委員

(Boston Orange)羅德島大學電腦工程副教授孫琰（Yan Sun），十一月四日以52%，2700多票的最高得票率，當選羅德島州東格林威治鎮學校委員會委員。

            孫琰將是該鎮成立 337 年以來的首名華裔學校委員。

        昨（五）日，孫琰在回應本報探問時表示，她和競選團隊非常感激所有支持者，這次參選能得到鎮民認可，既感驕傲，也深覺責任重大，將盡心盡力幫助鎮內小孩學習得更好，更愉快，開心。

孫琰坦言，因為這次選舉，結交了許多朋友，四日這天，許多人都特地請了一天假，沒去上班，上課的分頭幫她在該鎮五個投票站助選，光傳單就發了三千多張。

孫琰透露，羅德島州的華人，因為有馮偉杰（Allan Fung）參選州長，全都開始關注選舉，從沒登記做選民的也去辦了手續。四日那天，東格林威治鎮的投票站，也因為他們助選，到處都是馮偉杰的競選標語牌。投票結束後回家在電視上看開票，看到最後馮偉杰只差三個多百分點的落選，特別鬱悶。

            羅德島州東格林威治鎮學校委員會今年的委員改選，競爭格外激烈，在四個出缺席位中，選民擁抱了三名新人，包括無黨籍的孫琰（Yan Sun），無黨籍的Michael Fain，以及民主黨的David Osborne。另一名當選者為在位，第三度連任的共和黨籍Mary Ellen Winters。

            孫琰等三名新人都是“東格林威治父母爭取卓越（East Greenwich Parents for Excellence）”這新組織的成員。去年春天，一批不滿在任學校委員會表現的家長們，走到一起，成立了這組織。

            該組織的非正式領導人Rebecca Bliss表示，他們不滿是因為在任的學校委員會行政不透明，而且不和家長們互動，打交道。

            他們希望學校委員會處理的問題包括延遲初高中上課時間，增加全日幼稚園。有個專門委員會正在研究這兩個議題。此外，他們也質疑學校委員會的策略計劃過程。

            得最高票的孫琰在公開論壇中告訴選民，她將回應每一通電話，每一封電郵。

            Michael Fain表示，孫琰的話極得人心，尤其是那些家有學齡兒童的父母。他認為選舉結果顯然表達了選民希望有改變的心意。

溫和黨攪局 馮偉杰與羅德島州長寶座擦身而過

羅德島州首名華裔州長候選人馮偉杰（Allan Fung）四日晚以大約4%的得票率差距抱憾，在眼匡泛淚中宣佈退讓，揚言“我會回來”。

            馮偉杰現任的羅德州克蘭斯頓市（Cranston）市長一職，一任四年。參選州長失利，並不影響他的市長職位。目前他的任期還有兩年。

            1970年二月出生的中國台山移民之子馮偉杰，去年十一月就宣佈意願，多方徵詢意見後決定參選羅德島州州長，並陸續獲得曾參選美國總統的朗尼（Mitt Romney），有全美知名度的新澤西州州長Chris Christie等頗為驚人的各方面支持。

            馮偉杰四日晚發表退讓感言時強調，他們的競選團隊打了一場好選戰。會後他私下感慨表示，五日面對羅州新聞媒體時也再重申，他的競爭對手，民主黨籍的雷萌朵（Gina Raimondo），出動了兩名總統，兩名第一夫人，再鼓動溫和黨候選人希雷(Robert Healey)臨尾參選才打敗他，讓他有雖敗猶榮之感。

            瞭解羅德島州選情的人都知道，那是指美國現任總統奧巴馬，第一夫人米雪兒，以及美國前任國務卿暨第一夫人希拉莉等曾親臨羅德島州，曾任美國總統的柯林頓，也用錄音電話為雷萌朵拉票。

            四日晚馮偉杰在台上感性表示，“我會回來”，但走下台來和支持者一一擁抱後，理性說明，現在還很難說，將來如何，但他那為民服務的心永久不變。選舉結束後，他的心思將放回為克蘭斯頓市民努力服務上。

            四日晚，出席選舉晚會的人，聽到馮偉杰的開票結果一路領先時，都很興奮，紛紛議論著就要締造歷史了。

            亞洲燒烤（Asian Grill）東主陳任卓不但讓陳素馨等兩名女兒都為馮偉杰競選做義工，還說動了今年當選為欖城安良工商會會長的黃超炎發起該會會員來支持馮偉杰。羅德島華人協會的葉超，吳子平，陳和棟，陳雅，章賢信，陳子為，趙軍，丌靄雲，呂師進，呂蘭英，連漢強，連少玉，以及羅州華人張君慈，陳咪咪等人都從羅州各地趕到會場。

            當他們看到羅德島州州長開票結果，代表溫和黨參選的希雷(Robert Healey)得票率竟高達22%時，都恨聲表示，就是這人攪局。如果他不出來選，馮偉杰就一定當選了。

            根據維基百科，希雷是羅德島州酷駝鹿（Cool Moorse）黨的創辦人，曾七度參選羅德島州的州長等全州性職位。曾經有過得39%的得票率。他所創辦的酷駝鹿黨，1999年創辦，2002年解散。

           為馮偉杰助選時，想出要羅德島州中餐館在大選前幾天一律發送”投票給馮偉杰（Vote for Allan Fung）“這“幸運籤（Fortune cookie）“點子的葉超也倍加感慨。他透露，把十萬個幸運籤分送到羅德島州的將近三百家中餐館，看來還不夠。下次要做更多幸運籤，甚至要西餐廳也發。

            羅德島州的非正式開票結果為，民主黨雷萌朵（Gina Ramondo）40.2%，123,460票。共和黨馮偉杰（Allan Fung)36.27%，111,297票。溫和黨希雷（Bob Healey）22.07%，67,707票，獨立無黨派Kate Fletcher 1.06%，3250票，獨立無黨派Leon Kayantian，0.37%，1138票。
