【導演介紹】

李靖惠導演是一位虔誠的基督徒，其一生藉由影像來與世人分享上帝的愛。其創作以關注女性、老人與家庭為主要題材。靖惠導演在創作過程當中，長期生活的在拍攝現場，與拍攝對象建立深厚的感情。她的紀錄片發揮觸媒作用喚醒社會大眾對弱勢的關懷。

其作品散發溫柔堅毅的丰采，1996年，導演李靖惠的外婆外公先後住進安養院，也讓導演開始走進老人與女性的生命故事，因而持續創作「家國四部曲」。從導演家人照顧外公外婆的經驗，進而關懷到其他家庭，最後拓展至跨國來台灣照顧老人的外籍看護工。

On Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013, MassChallenge unveiled 128 Global Finalists for the 2013 MassChallenge Accelerator Program at its annual announcement event. MassChallenge has increased its class size from 125 to 128 this year as a tribute to Route 128, underscoring the continued innovation renaissance in Boston. The 128 startups hail from 18 U.S. states and 11 international locations, and span all industries including high tech, clean tech and energy, healthcare and life sciences, general and consumer products, and social impact.

The 2013 class was selected over a six-week evaluation process led by hundreds of industry professionals in the Boston community, as well as dozens in Israel. During the rigorous selection process, over 300 globally renowned experts volunteered their time as MassChallenge judges to review ~1,200 applicant startups from 40 countries and 30 states. These judges provided 500,000 words of written feedback during an estimated 3,000 judge-hours of evaluation.

WGBH慶亞裔傳統月 談模範少數族裔印象影響

公共電視台 WGBH 廿日晚放映記錄片「模範少數族裔：你算算(Model Minority: Do the Math)」，並舉行座談，討論亞裔在美，至今仍面對著社會對亞裔有刻版印象 (stereotype) 的壓力；談及亞裔內含的文化、種族十分多元，仍難形成統一力量的現實。

WGBH誌記亞美傳統月的這一活動，由該台兩名華裔監察委員會(Board of Overseers)委員，陳秀英、李超榮主辦，逾150人出席。

活動中放映的「模範少數族裔：你算算(Model Minority: Do the Math)」一片，是來自日本的多元化娛樂(Entertaining diversity)公司董事長暨創意主任Teja Arboleda 和 Darby Li Po Price共同製作的一部記錄片，以訪談伊利諾州芝加哥大學(University of Illinois, Chicago)學生、教職員，來顯示亞裔美人是模範少數族裔，學習成績一定好，工作勤奮，沉默怕事，不擅運動等同時存在的正面、負面刻板印象，對亞裔青年形成什麼樣的心理或社會壓力，企圖藉著引導學生偏重個人發展，來打破整體性形象架構，造成週遭社會對他們的錯誤解讀。

影片中有學生反映，模範少數族裔這刻板印象，使亞裔不公平的被排除於補助，輔導少數族裔的行列之外；學校的歷史課只談美國，不提亞裔，讓他們萌生不知自己在美國內的身份、地位為何的感覺。影片中也有教授提及，亞裔青少年女性自殺率最高等現象。

現為WGBH世界頻道總經理，上個月起另兼任WGBH電視部總經理的程必璧(Liz Cheng)，在影片放映後，主持座談，邀有模範少數族裔一片共同制片Teja Arboleda，康州亞太裔美人事務局(Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission)主席暨全美多元文化教育協會前任會長Bill Howe，麻州大學公共及社區服務學院法律教育及亞美研究副教授梁聯星，布魯克蘭鎮亞美家庭網(Brookline Asian American Family Network)共同創辦人暨WGBH社區顧問委員會委員吳玉琦等人分享經驗，從不同角度討論。

康州亞太裔美人事務局Bill Bowe強調，亞裔美人必須起而表達意見(speak out)，學會美國社會那一套，和人說話時眼睛直視對方，能閒聊雜事，談籃球、棒球賽等體育活動，培養出在美國社會的社交技巧，更重要的是懂得適時適地表達意見等，才能打破美國社會認為亞裔都有如勤奮的工蜂，不是管理者材料這種和模範少數族裔連在一起的刻板印象。

他強調，亞裔必須學會挺而發聲。他透露自己在相關部門工作18年來，接辦的所有投訴案中，只有5宗來自亞裔家長。可見為何亞裔有怕事、好欺負的形象。

WGBH世界頻道總經理程必璧認為，各人應該為別人如何看自己負一半的責任，亞裔必須學會勇於發言，敢於挺身維護自己的權益。她也表示，亞裔父母大都要求子女用功唸書，上好學校，進理工、法律、醫療、金融界，賺高薪，過好日子，大概也是形成模範少數族裔這形象的原因之一。她透露3週多前，WGBH發佈她升任WGBH電視部總經理的消息，她父親卻仍建議她，閒暇時，學些商品交易知識，好做為一旦發生狀況時的備用能力。

梁聯星指出，對亞裔來說，「我們」到底是誰，迄今仍是個大問題。他還記得民主黨開黨代表大會時，主持人想要亞裔一起喊口號，起了個頭，「Who We Are(我們是誰)」，想不到台下眾人你看我，我看你，不知道該形容自己是華裔美人，日裔美人，韓裔美人，還是什麼人。到底亞裔是個包含著非常多元化，各有不同文化背景，甚至種族的群體。許多人還無法把自己認同進亞裔這個名詞框架中。

梁聯星還講了個故事。有天他在出庭路上，遇到幾名童子軍，使用了些歧視字眼形容見到他，讓他內心「天人交戰」起來，想着是否該停下腳步，質問那些童子軍，為何語出傷人，或是向那些童子軍的帶隊老師投訴，藉機教育那些童子軍尊重不同族裔者，還是趕時間出庭要緊，對那些形容置若罔聞，這些該如何選擇，做什麼反應的考慮，甚至如今仍縈迴在他心中，讓他感概，只因為身為亞裔，他無可避免的遇上這樣的問題，得思考選擇因應，但白人同事卻不會遭遇這種困擾。

梁聯星在發言時也提及，亞裔通常得表現得比白人同伴好125%，才有可能擠進被考慮的圈子裏，這本身就是一種歧視或不公平。

吳玉琦指出，布魯克蘭鎮雖是麻州內一個比較富裕的城鎮，但許多人不知道，鎮內亞裔中有13%是生活在貧窮線之下。一竿子打翻一船人的認為所有亞裔都富裕、自足，不需要幫助，就使得很多需要幫助的亞裔，生活得更困難。

吳玉琦也指出，由於亞裔的遇事隱忍，在學校中亞裔成為霸凌犧牲品的比例很高。最近麻州積極改善學校霸凌情況，但採用的輔導材料來自瑞士，對亞裔學生並不完全適用，該機構正設法和該鎮學校委員商議，增加對亞裔學生的文化背景來說，更適當的輔導材料。

一名觀眾在座談時質疑，為什麼在日常生活中的個人爭取權益行為，如果是亞裔爭取，就常被解讀作是為反族裔歧視而爭；白人爭取，則是為個人尊嚴而爭。這解讀本身就存在不公平。

活動主辦人之一的李超榮會後表示，出席者當天表達的感慨，提出的質疑之真率，角度之多面，令人興奮。讓他有迫不及待，趕快再辦一次類似討論的衝動。

波士頓元極舞慶十週年

「波士頓元極舞聯誼會」5月19日晚在波士頓龍鳳酒樓舉辦「亞太裔傳統月」、「元極日」、「成立十週年」的三合一，聯合慶祝大會，表揚13人為10年資深會員，宣佈新屆職員。

            當晚有逾百名會員出席，人人穿著紅衣白褲元極舞制服，場面十分壯觀、美麗。

            會長薛劍童報告會務時表示，這三節合一的聯合大會，各項活動都以弘揚中華傳統文化為主旨，例如元極舞的舉手投足動作，都可和體能原理，穴道經脈學理相配合。

            他感謝各界人士及同學的合作、愛護、努力、支持，讓元極舞這十年來在大波士頓地區開花散葉。他特別讚揚感謝教練李潔瑜的貢獻與付出，指她充滿耐心、愛心的教授元極舞動作，講解學理要領、分析元極舞精髓，對元極舞今日在大波士頓地區的推廣有成，功不可沒。

            李潔瑜也在會中報告教學計畫課程，將朝多元化方向發展，以推廣中華傳統運動文化為原則，希望學員跳元極舞時，能達到「形意相合，心音共鳴」內外兼修的要求。

當晚的慶祝「亞太裔傳統月、元極日、成立十週年」聯合大會，該會會員表演了元極舞蹈：快樂元極舞、我們都是一家人、五明覺光、康福操、和李潔瑜教師示範太極劍、以及民族舞蹈等。

            會中還表揚了薛劍童、袁金球、李蕙蓮、李潔瑜、李余莉莉、李雪英、胡嘉利、余玉屏、阮晚霞、黃錦卿、陳李新金、李美秀、譚美瓊、胡碧珍等13人為10年資深會員。

該會新屆職員，中文書記：毛倩婷。英文書記：趙令瑜。財政：胡美英等人，也在會中舉行了就職儀式。

波士頓元極舞聯誼會當晚還藉盛會，表揚上週日(5/11)參加波士頓市政府所主辦運動會競賽，榮獲獎牌的學員，包括陳秀蓉：女子組自由式50、100公尺和蛙泳50、100公尺四項金牌獎。黃笑琴：女子組蛙泳100公尺銀牌獎。踢足球比賽、拋馬蹄鐵餅：女子組：胡美英、鄧小恵、梁番濃、黎淑馨、陳素     妍等分別榮獲金、銀、銅牌獎，保齡球比賽：胡美英、陳素妍、司徒淑馨等。

Mayor Menino Announces Massive Road Work Plan for 2013

$13.75 million secured to repave 45 miles of roadway and repair 1,400 pedestrian ramps to improve City accessibility

Mayor Thomas M. Menino today announced plans to repave 45 miles of Boston roadways and repair 1,400 pedestrian ramps this summer, exceeding work done in 2012, the City’s most productive construction season in a decade.  

“Our residents deserve the best roads and sidewalks in their neighborhoods. Not only are clean and safe passages a matter of public safety, they also help support our small businesses,” Mayor Menino said. “We’re looking forward to our best year yet in getting our roadways and pedestrian ramps ready for another great summer in Boston.”

Working together with Treasury, Auditing, and the Office of Budget Management, the Public Works Department secured $13.75 million in total resurfacing funds for this year. This includes $10 million in funds freed up from the street cut account, which collects roadway restoration fees through the City’s permitting process.

This year’s efforts will build on last year’s construction season – the most productive in a decade – when 40 miles of roadway were repaved and 1,325 pedestrian ramps were rebuilt. Plans are already off to a good start. In April 2013, the Public Works Department repaved 4.8 linear miles of roadway, compared to 1.98 linear miles in April 2012

Important note for residents: If you live on a street that is proposed for resurfacing or reconstruction, and are thinking about installing a new service or upgrading a current service for your building, it is critical that you refer to this fact sheet. Any delay may result in the street being paved and your ability to receive a permit for a service connection denied.

Mayor Menino Convenes Housing Boston 2020 Advisory Panel

Housing Boston 2020 initiative to create 30,000 new units of housing in Boston

Mayor Thomas M. Menino today announced the members of an advisory panel that will help identify and address Boston’s new housing needs. The Housing Boston 2020 Advisory Panel is comprised of housing professionals who will work with key personnel from the city’s housing agencies to develop strategies to manage Boston’s current and future housing challenges. The group convened for their first meeting yesterday.

Mayor Menino announced Housing Boston 2020, a ten-year initiative that calls for the production of 30,000 new units in his annual address to the Boston Municipal Research Bureau in March. The new housing panel will be asked to create a comprehensive plan that will lay the groundwork for the creation of these 30,000 new units by 2020.

           

“We know the strength of Boston's neighborhoods relies on a diverse, strong housing market, so I have asked these talented individuals to help us come up with a new plan to meet the challenges and opportunities we face today and in the future,” Mayor Menino said. “Today, I asked the panel to examine how we can best accommodate Boston’s growth and shifting demographics; make sure we have appropriate and affordable housing available for all of these demographics, and consider how best we can stabilize the middle class through housing solutions.”

Mayor Menino has been a leading advocate for housing since he took office in 1993.  In 2000, he charged his housing agencies to work with an advisory panel to develop a new housing strategy for Boston, known as Leading the Way. The strategy addressed the city's housing needs in several areas:

·               Production of new market-rate and affordable housing;

·               Raising + leveraging funding for affordable housing;

·               Reducing homelessness;

·               Reclaiming public housing stock;

·               Increasing opportunities for homeownership;

·               Preserving rental housing; and

·               Expanding dormitory housing. 

The Leading the Way housing strategy has created nearly 25,000 housing units in Boston – 5,000 more units than had been built over the previous 30 years.  Leading the Way also injected more than $10 billion of investment into the local economy.  Based on the success of the Leading the Way housing strategy, Mayor Menino has convenedthe Housing Boston 2020 Advisory Panel to develop a new strategy for this decade.

華埠退伍軍人會參加牛頓市國殤紀念日遊行

牛頓市今年中國風長吹。繼3月9日首度舉辦「中國文化節」，5月4日舉辦第5屆牛頓市台灣日之後，華埠328分會在5月19日時，應美國退伍軍人會的牛頓市440分會之邀，再度參加該會的紀念日遊行。牛頓市的兩名華裔市議員，談繼欣(Greer Tan Swiston )(左四)、馬惠美(Amy Mah Sangiolo)(左六)也參加遊行，使得總人口8萬5千餘，僅6.2%，約5256人為華裔的牛頓市，再見華人積極參與主流社會活動。
