Chinese Empresses by Xiang Li - Opening Reception September 25th, 2025 5:00-7:00pm ET Gutman Gallery 6 Appian Way, Cambridge MA Event and Exhibit Overview Experience the breathtaking work of internationally acclaimed artist Xiang Li, in a captivating exhibition celebrating historical empresses of China in intricately hand-painted on silk using traditional Chinese watercolor techniques. Informed by decades of research, study, and practice, Xiang Li’s portrayals of each empress incorporate elements of nature, in particular floral forms, conveying the rich sense of symbolism woven into traditional Chinese culture and honoring the unsung women who shaped dynasties. Meet the artist and her daughter, Fei Wu, in person and enjoy a relaxed and engaging conversation. Ask questions, connect, and discover the stories behind the art. Light refreshments will be provided. This exhibit will be on view from 9/4/25-11/30/25.

李红海 —— 普通法与社会经济的发展 ■ 时间与报名信息美东时间：2025年9月26日周五晚上8点30 北京时间：2025年9月27日周六早上8点30 zoom 报名链接 ■ 讲座内容 LLSV学派认为，良好的法律制度更有利于社会经济的发展。他们的经验研究表明，普通法世界在上世纪的某个时间段经历了比欧陆法国家更好的经济发展。他们在分析其原因时指出，这主要是因为普通法能更好地保护财产权，并倾向于限制公权力，因此能更好地保护民众的自由和创新精神。但他们并未从普通法本身的特点和技术角度来论证其结论，本讲座的目的在于从法律技术的角度来显示，普通法是否的确可以具备上述的功能，并产生他们所述的结果。 ■ 演讲嘉宾主讲人：李红海法学博士，北京大学法学院教授。主要研究方向为英国法律史和英国普通法，主题涉及普通法的历史、基本理论、司法过程、判例法和宪政史等。著有《英国普通法导论》《普通法的历史解读》等，译著包括《英格兰宪政史》《英国普通法的诞生》《英国律师职业阶层的起源》，并发表论文多篇。主持人：孙国栋经济学博士，香港中文大学(深圳)发展与治理研究院助理院长，主要研究方向为奥地利经济学，货币金融及制度与空间经济学。

講座系列 - 晚清官員的收入和收藏活動 2025-09-13T20:56 蘭亭雅聚書社 2025-26 講座系列晚清官員的收入和收藏活動主題：收藏藝術品是中國古代士大夫的主要文化活動之一。本演講以晚清官員吳大徵及其友人為例，介紹晚清官員們的收入構成以及他們購藏藝術品的開銷。演講人：白謙慎，1982年畢業於北京大學。1986年赴美國羅格斯大學留學，1990年獲比較政治碩士學位後，至耶魯大學攻讀藝術史，1996年獲博士。1997-2015年任教於波士頓大學藝術史系，2015年入職浙江大學。2019年5月至2023年9月，任浙江大學藝術與考古學院院長，2019年9月至2021年九月任浙江大學藝術與考古博物館館長。主要研究領域為中國書法史和中國藝術收藏史。時間：2025年9月27日星期六上午10點。地點：紐約人壽辦公樓 201 Jones Rd.
