Houghs Neck
Community Council Awarded Second Grant from Mass Service Alliance
Quincy to
celebrate National Volunteer Week
QUINCY – The Houghs Neck Community Council has been awarded
their second grant from the Massachusetts Service Alliance for 2015 to assist
in collaborations to bring more volunteerism to the City of Quincy! To
celebrate National Volunteer Week, April 13 - April 18, Houghs Neck Community
Council and the City of Quincy Department of Planning and Community Development
will host five volunteer recruitment events. Pizza party open houses will be
held at Houghs Neck Community Center, Ward 4 Neighborhood Center, and North
Quincy Community Center from 5:30 – 7:30 PM on Tuesday, April 14, Wednesday,
April 15, and Thursday, April 16 respectively. Additionally the Quincy Public
Schools has partnered as well to offer Community Service Fairs at Quincy High
School and North Quincy High School for the students during their lunch period
on Wednesday, April 15 and Thursday, April 16, respectively.
These events will give individuals in the community the
chance to meet their community leaders, find out what service opportunities are
being offered in their area, and a sign up for a “Cleaner Greener Quincy”
neighborhood project. Norfolk County RSVP Volunteer Program will be at the open
houses to talk about volunteer opportunities for those who are 55+. Opportunities
include rides for veterans, a veterans’ book club and many more.
