銘琪投書呼籲支持臺灣參加今年世衛大會

羅德島州第一大報「普羅維敦斯紀事報」（Providence Journal）5月14日刊出駐波士頓臺北經文處處長賴銘琪的投書，強調臺灣應獲邀參與「世界衛生組織」及今年的「世界衛生大會」；若因政治因素遭排除在外，全球都有風險；吾人應一齊守護全球公共衛生及人類福祉。

賴處長表示，「世界衛生組織」迄未邀請臺灣參加將於今年5月22日至31日在瑞士日內瓦召開的第70屆「世界衛生大會」，此為2009年以來臺灣首度遭排除在外。由於疾病無國界，此舉對國際社會之公共衛生及福祉都有潛在風險。

賴處長也稱，中華民國（臺灣）政府對於未獲邀請深表遺憾，並認為「世界衛生組織」不應屈從於政治壓力之下。拒絕臺灣參加不僅忽視了臺灣民眾的衛生權利，也將致世界衛生體系產生罅隙。

投書表示，臺灣自1996年以來已在全球逾80國挹注60億美元之醫療及人道援助，我們在國際衛生體系內之權利與責任不應受政治因素影響而阻滯。臺灣不能參與「世界衛生大會」將致國際衛生體系出現重大的漏洞，造成負面效果。

賴處長同時表示，中華民國政府及臺灣人民非常感謝美國、加拿大、日本等多國友人對臺灣與會之傾力支持，尤其美國各界均深為關切及支持臺灣有意義參與「世界衛生組織」與「世界衛生大會」。

「普」報係新英格蘭地區重要報紙之一，發行量逾20萬份，是羅德島州最大報，該報曾於5月8日刊登「美聯社」（Associated Press）題為「臺灣推動參與世界衛生大會」（Taiwan pushes for inclusion in global health summit）之報導，對此新聞相當關注。

MAYOR WALSH LAUNCHES GROUNDBREAKING FOR AUDUBON CIRCLE  $7 MILLION RECONSTRUCTION

Project will increase safety, improve travel conditions, provide improved green space for all users of Audubon Circle

BOSTON - Monday, May 15, 2017 - Mayor Martin J. Walsh this weekend announced that the City of Boston and Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) are investing a total of $7 million to reconstruct Audubon Circle in the Fenway/Kenmore neighborhood of Boston. The new design, developed in cooperation with the Audubon Circle Neighborhood Association and others in the community, will increase safety and improve travel conditions for all users. It will also reimagine the public space, including investing in planters inscribed with poetry chosen by former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky, and green infrastructure. Audubon Circle was originally designed in 1887 by Frederick Law Olmstead as a tree-lined gateway to the Fenway and the Emerald Necklace. "Our goal is to make Audubon Circle a welcoming place for residents and all others who visit this neighborhood," said Mayor Walsh. "This project fulfills another promise in our Go Boston 2030 plans: ensuring Audubon Circle has increased safety and accessibility for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers. Working with residents, the Boston Transportation Department has produced a design that better meets the current transportation needs of the community, while simultaneously honoring the history of Audubon Circle." "Increasing safety and making Audubon Circle more pedestrian and bike friendly are priorities for neighborhood residents, and these priorities are also in accordance with Vision Zero and Go Boston 2030 goals for enhanced transportation safety and access on Boston's streets," said Chris Osgood, City of Boston Chief of Streets. "With the community process and design work now complete, we are looking forward to beginning the active construction phase of this beneficial project." As part of the project, four plazas, each featuring planters and seating, will be built on the four corners of the intersection. Poetry will be engraved on each of the four planters, and each poem will reflect one of the four seasons. Additional improvements to Audubon Circle will include: Shorter crosswalks to safely guide pedestrians and more time to cross. Dedicated signalized left turn lanes on Park Drive northbound and Beacon street westbound. New bike lanes on Beacon Street. Plazas on the four corners with planters and seating. Green infrastructure including rain gardens, permeable pavements, 49 street trees planted in structural soil and 12 magnolias. Engraved poetry on the planter walls. New ADA compliant wheelchair ramps. New pavement markings. New street lighting. "The unique design features incorporated into this plan ensure that Audubon Circle will serve its transportation related purpose as well as contribute to the beauty of the neighborhood," said Boston Transportation Commissioner Gina N. Fiandaca. "The Boston Arts Commission, the Browne Fund and Robert Pinsky all helped us to achieve this goal. I would also like to thank MassDOT for contributing many of the project's design and construction funding needs." Other partners making a contribution to this project include the Boston Water and Sewer Commission, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Children's Hospital and Samuels Associates, developer of the Landmark Center. The project design was guided by HDR Inc. with Crosby, Schlessinger Smallridge of Boston, and Mario Susi & Son, Inc,. also of Boston, is the contractor.  Construction is expected to be completed by November 2018.

美丽的母亲节来到之际，哈佛大学中国学生学者联合会将举行一年一度的母亲节音乐会。为庆祝这个国际性节日，今年音乐会的曲目富有国际性，其中包括博茨瓦纳民歌“母亲的土地”，俄罗斯民歌“母亲”，墨西哥民歌“献给母亲”，印度民歌“摇篮曲”，日本童谣“红蜻蜓”，泰戈尔的名诗“母亲”，德沃夏克的小提琴名曲“母亲教我的歌”。同时有中国诗词歌曲“游子吟”，电影插曲“妈妈留给我一首歌”，流行歌曲“大海啊故乡”，京剧清唱“儿行千里母担忧”，京胡独奏“迎春”，等等。表演者来自伯克利音乐学院，波士顿大学音乐学院，哈佛大学艺术教育系，黄河合唱乐团，波士顿京剧社等院校和团体，其中包括若干国际友人。中国著名的歌手和演员“天仙妹妹”尔玛依娜也将应邀演出。

音乐会的日期是5月14日星期日，晚上7点30 至9点。地点在哈佛大学Lehman-Hall二楼的Common-Room。Lehman-Hall就是正位于哈佛广场又坐落于哈佛园内的那一栋大楼，从地铁红线哈佛站横过马路即是，交通十分方便。

State Agricultural Officials Celebrate “Plant Something Day” with Massachusetts Schools

BOSTON – Tomorrow, Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) Commissioner John Lebeaux and Assistant Commissioner Jason Wentworth will tour gardens at elementary and high schools across the Commonwealth, and join the students in planting seedlings in honor of national “Plant Something Day.”

“Plant Something Day” aims to encourage consumers to support their local nurseries, garden centers, landscapers and floriculture growers by purchasing and planting something in their yard or local community. Massachusetts is home to approximately 1,039 farms in floriculture, nursery, greenhouse and sod that employ more than 4,000 workers and in 2012 generated $158 million in sales.

•  Organized a community outreach and education workshop with the CAFEH (Community Assessment of Freeway Exposure and Health) and Visualizing Pollution research projects
• Cosponsored August Town Meeting with the Chinatown Master Plan Implementation Committee and other organizations, inviting City officials to hear residents' planning proposals and concerns
• Cosponsored the Second Annual Chinatown Block Party with the Chinese Progressive Association and other partners on Johnny Court and Maple Place to build community and highlight concerns about the future of Chinatown's public parcels
• Organized residents to call for increased and deeper affordable housing goals for development of state-owned Parcels 25 and 26 as well as protection and expansion of Reggie Wong Park
• Organized to oppose the 250-room hotel proposal that would bring new traffic through the heart of Chinatown down Oxford Street threaten the historic character and pedestrian safety of the community
• Provided a platform for residents to hear about and support row house tenants fighting displacement from Hudson Street, Johnny Court, and Oxford Street
• Supported Mass Pike Towers Tenant Association in their advocacy effort to secure and exercise the option to purchase their development
• Co-sponsored the APIs CAN! Candidate Forum for the First Suffolk and Middlesex Special State Senate Race
• Partnered with the Chinese Progressive Association and APIs CAN! to register, inform, and turn out Chinatown voters in the 2016 spring and fall elections
• Joined other organizations across the city to support affordable housing and anti-displacement legislation

             (Boston Orange 周菊子麻州牛頓市報導) 波士頓僑界關懷救助協會日前在位於麻州牛頓市的波士頓僑教中心，選出第一屆理事，共13人。

              會長王志維，副會長歐陽露，理事蔣宗壬，陳家驊，陳清芳，周一男，長金滿，謝如鍵，蕭蔚，陳裕逢，張涵捷，石明軒等人。

                該會目前暫以從台灣來到波士頓的留學生，遊客為主要救助對象，將整合大波士頓地區政府，民間資源，為遭遇急難有需求的前述對象，提供必要協助。

Boston Public Schools Hosts Poetry Slam, Interactive Exhibits and Panel Discussions as District Welcomes Community Members to its Spring Open House

Spoken word competition is the first of its kind for BPS

Students poets hold certificates of recognition following first ever BPS district-wide poetry slam.

Boston, MA — Saturday, May 13, 2017 —  The Boston Public Schools (BPS) today hosted a spring open house that featured interactive exhibitions, a poetry slam celebrating youth voices, panel discussions on important educational issues, an “hour of code” computer-science workshop, and a glimpse into a modern, 21st century classroom. The daylong event — held at the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building, the home of the Boston Public Schools’ central office —  attracted scores of community members who got to learn more about BuildBPS, the district’s 10-year educational and facilities master plan, participate in powerful dialogues, and be awed by student poets competing in the “My Pen. My Word. My Future.” spoken-word contest. “It is really wonderful for BPS to open its doors and invite the community to deeply engage in the many exciting things happening in the district, from the redesigning of schools to better foster 21st century learning to the vital work being done to make immigrant students and families feel safe and welcomed,” said Mayor Martin J. Walsh. “This event provided BPS a great opportunity to showcase some of the innovative thinking taking place throughout the district, as well as the creative talents of young students who felt inspired to share their poetry.” The student poetry slam was only one of many exhibits included in the BPS open house. There was also a “Microsoft Hour of Code,” a crash-course in computer science aimed at “demystifying” coding; workshops such as the Emerson Engagement Lab; a BuildBPS “office hours;” an Adobe youth voice art show called “Create with Purpose;” and a model of a 21st century classroom. The open house also featured panel discussions on the “10 Planning Principles of BuildBPS, moderated by Colin Gillespie, the executive in residence at New Profit; “Beyond Academics,” moderated by John Riordan, director of community relations and partnerships at Boston Children's Hospital; and “Protecting the Immigrant Experience in Boston,” moderated by Alejandra St. Guillen, director of immigrant advancement for the City of Boston. “My Pen. My Word. My Future” was the first word-based performance art competition of its kind to be hosted by BPS. Using the artistic medium of spoken-word poetry, BPS middle and high school students rapped, recited and read 22 powerful poems in 90 minutes — challenging audience members to think differently about the way they view the world.   BPS Superintendent Tommy Chang said performance-art events like youth poetry slams offer students the chance to display their creativity outside the classroom and connect with other artists and community members, alike. “Boston is a city with such an abundance of talented youth who come from so many diverse backgrounds and speak with such powerful, intelligent voices,” said Dr. Chang. ‘My Pen. My Word. My Future,’ offered these students an opportunity to share with us their thoughts, their fears, and their dreams through the power of oral poetry.” To help stage the poetry slam, BPS teamed up with 826 Boston, a nonprofit youth writing and publishing organization that empowers traditionally underserved students to find their voices and tell their stories, and the Massachusetts Literary Education and Performance Collective (MassLEAP), a Boston Based collection of writer-educators that fosters positive youth development through spoken word poetry forums. MassLEAP mentored four of the young poets who, fresh from competing in the statewide “Louder Than A Bomb” youth poetry slam festival, shared the stage Saturday with peers from across the city. The spoken-word event was emceed by local slam poets Michelle Garcia and Dubem Okafor. "We are thrilled to partner with the Boston Public Schools and MassLEAP to present a showcase of some of the most dynamic youth voices in Boston,” said Jessica Drench, executive director of 826 Boston. “It is an honor to celebrate the provocative and inspiring work of these young poets." BPS would like to acknowledge the generosity of Boston Children's Hospital, Tufts Health Plan, MassHousing, and Converse in sponsoring today's open house.

中華表演藝術基金會，將於五月十三日星期六於新英格蘭音樂學院喬登廳 （Jordan Hall），舉辦一場由波士頓當地竄起一顆古典樂壇新星19歲的鋼琴家陸逸軒 (Eric Lu) 的鋼琴演奏會。

陸逸軒出生於麻州波士頓，是一位迅速掘起響譽國際，具有巨大前景和獨特音樂特質的鋼琴家。繼在2014第九屆莫斯科國際蕭邦大賽青少年組獲得第一名後， 2015年他在美國邁阿密蕭邦鋼琴大賽奪冠，並得到最佳協奏曲獎。同年更贏得第十七屆華沙國際蕭邦鋼琴大賽第四名，且當年以十七歲之齡成為此比賽歷史中最年輕的獲獎者之一。 最近他又贏得了法蘭克福 2017年德國國際鋼琴大獎。 陸逸軒青年時期就已多次獲獎，其中包含2010在德國埃特林根（Ettlingen）國際鋼琴比賽冠軍、2013年明尼蘇答全美青少年鋼琴賽獲獎等。紐約古典音樂 (New York Classical Review) 評論家描他是一位具有對“音樂特殊的敏感性” ， Duszniki音樂節的麥可‧摩朗稱讚他：「他彈奏的音色十分明亮，音樂表達引人入勝令人激動。」 2015年陸逸軒贏得 Verbier Festival Academy音樂節的Tabor基金會鋼琴獎 再次受到樂壇肯定。

他對音樂獨特的敏感性及美感，引起全球觀眾的注目及樂迷極大的迴響。在世界各地排滿了演出行程; 即將到來的多場獨奏和協奏演出包括在馬德里國家演藝廳，華沙愛樂音樂廳，波士頓喬丹廳，諾昂蕭邦音樂節，克拉科夫音樂節，首爾藝術中心，札幌音樂廳，東京藝術劇場等。 2015-16季演出主要包括在紐約卡內基音樂廳，波蘭Duszniki-Zydrój第70屆國際蕭邦音樂節，中國北京音樂廳，以及許多樂團合作演出：如華沙愛樂，明尼蘇達，辛辛那提室內樂團，亞美尼亞國家青年管弦樂團，蕭邦基金會交響樂團等。

陸逸軒6歲開始和 楊鏡釧 (Dorothy Yang Shi) 老師學習鋼琴。進而在新英格蘭音樂學院大學預科，師從 Alexander Korsantia 和 A. Ramón Rivera。2013年進入費城柯蒂斯 Curtis音樂學院，師從 Jonathan Biss和Robert McDonald。他也是鋼琴家鄧泰山 (Dang Thai Son) 的學生。
