Governor Healey Issues Statement Ahead of State of the Union
BOSTON – Governor Maura Healey issued the following statement ahead of President Trump’s State of the Union tonight:
“I wish tonight we would hear from a President who is focused on lowering costs, protecting people, and bringing steady leadership here and across the globe. But we are getting the exact opposite. This is a President who has declared that he’s already ‘won affordability,’ so we know his speech will be completely detached from the reality our families face and offer no plan to actually help them.
“Here’s what I want the people of Massachusetts to know: I am focused on you and what matters in your life.
“It starts with lowering costs. That means building more homes to bring down housing costs. It means bringing more energy in, opposing rate hikes and lowering energy costs. We are capping health deductibles and co-pays to lower the cost of health care. We’re making sure people can get the vaccines they need while President Trump tries to take them away. We’re making our schools even better for our kids and creating jobs in every part of our state. And my job as Governor is to protect people in our communities – that means protecting them from ICE. It’s why I’m getting ICE out of our schools, hospitals, nursing homes, courthouses and places of worship, and making sure people’s rights are protected.
“As Governor, I’ll do all of this and provide what this President is incapable of providing tonight or any night: stability, security and integrity. We will deliver on what matters in your life and build a better path forward for everyone in Massachusetts, together.”

MAYOR WU SHARES UPDATE ON SNOWSTORM RESPONSE; BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED TOMORROW, FEBRUARY 24
BOSTON - Monday, February 23, 2026 - Mayor Michelle Wu today announced that after 15 inches of snowfall in the last 24 hours, ongoing snow and windy conditions and with forecasts showing more snow later this week, Boston Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, February 24, 2026. The District has made the decision to close schools for an additional day so crews can sufficiently clear sidewalks and widen main roadways for children, families and the 700 bus fleet to maneuver across all streets safely. Boston Public Library branches, senior centers, and Boston Centers for Youth & Families will reopen at 12:00 p.m. tomorrow, February 24. All other municipal buildings and city services will operate regular hours tomorrow.
The snow emergency and parking ban in effect will be in place until at least tomorrow, February 24 at 6 p.m. Residents parked in participating discounted garages must remove their cars by two hours after it’s lifted to avoid being charged regular rates. More information is available at boston.gov/snow-parking. Space savers should be removed 48 hours after the end of the snow emergency. The use of space savers is prohibited at all times in the South End and Bay Village. Space savers that violate these rules may be collected and discarded by the Public Works Department (PWD).
“I’m grateful to all of our city teams who have been working around the clock through this nor’easter. We ask that everyone continue to stay safe and warm, look out for your neighbors and stay off the roads to support our public works and public safety teams,” said Mayor Michelle Wu. “As we continue to prioritize getting our roadways clear, please call 911 if you see anyone outside who needs assistance and report issues through the 311 app so our team can assist with downed trees or wires. With more snow forecasted for later this week, it’s critical that residents shovel out the sidewalks and crosswalks in front of your property so we can all be safe. We thank everyone for their patience and staying tuned for more updates.”
This week, curbside trash and recycling will operate on a delayed schedule. All neighborhoods will experience a one-day delay in trash and recycling service. Residents are encouraged to visit boston.gov/trash-day to find the most up-to-date curbside collection information.
Boston Public Health Commission’s emergency shelters are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and when temperatures are below freezing (32 degrees), amnesty is in place for those with nonviolent restrictions. Men can access shelter at the 112 Southampton Street Shelter, and women should go to the Woods Mullen Shelter at 794 Massachusetts Ave. Last night, the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) sheltered nearly 600 guests. Today, 250 people have utilized BPHC shelters to stay safe and warm. Since the start of the winter emergency, BPHC has prepared close to 1,300 meals to keep people nourished and indoors. BPHC will also have outreach teams checking on people and offering transport to shelters and programs throughout the day and into the late night.
Residents are reminded to call 911 to assist individuals experiencing homelessness or vulnerable individuals out in the cold who appear immobile, disoriented or underdressed for the weather. For non-emergencies, residents can call 311.
Once the storm has ended, property owners are responsible to shovel sidewalks to a 42” path of travel. Please clear sidewalks as soon as possible after the storm ends. Please do not shovel or plow snow into the street. The City will issue violations to property owners who do not maintain safe sidewalks or who shovel or push snow into the street. Residents will have until 10 a.m. (three hours after sunrise) tomorrow to clear their sidewalks. Please use 311 to report any unshoveled sidewalks after 10 a.m. tomorrow.
Tomorrow, the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services will host citywide snow shoveling meet-ups, bringing volunteers together to help clear sidewalks, curb ramps and areas of concern during snow emergencies. For more information on volunteer efforts, please visit boston.gov/shovel.
For alerts, including cold-weather alerts, residents are encouraged to sign up for Alert Boston. More information can be found on boston.gov/winter
查詢詳情可上網 Mass.gov/Snow。
Governor Healey Partially Lifts State of Emergency, Adds Martha’s Vineyard to Travel Ban
Governor activates 150 more National Guard members for storm response in Southeastern Mass, 350 now activated
BOSTON – Governor Maura Healey has lifted the blizzard state of emergency for Berkshire, Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin counties. The state of emergency continues in effect for all other counties in the state.
The travel ban issued for Bristol, Plymouth and Barnstable counties remains in effect and Governor Healey is extending the ban to Dukes County. She has also activated an additional 150 members of the Massachusetts National Guard to assist with the response.
Governor Healey has also directed that non-emergency Executive Department state employees should not report to their workplaces on Tuesday, February 24, and is urging employers to consider having employees work remotely to the extent possible, especially those subject to the travel ban.
“While the worst of the storm is behind us and much of the state is turning to shoveling out, conditions remain severe and dangerous across Southeastern Massachusetts,” said Governor Healey. “We need everyone to stay off the roads for their own safety and to allow our crews to do their work – especially in Bristol, Plymouth, and Barnstable counties and on the Vineyard. We will also have additional members of the National Guard assisting municipalities with snow and debris removal, transportation, non-fire related emergency responses, rescues and any other needs. It will take some time for crews to address snow removal and power outages, so we urge everyone to remain cautious and patient while we work to get things back to normal.”
Those who are exempt from the travel ban include:
· Public safety vehicles, sworn and civilian public safety personnel, including those providing services at correctional facilities, and private sector security personnel
· Public works vehicles and public works personnel, including contract personnel supporting public works operations
· Public transportation vehicles and public transportation personnel, including contract personnel supporting public transportation operations
· Government personnel conducting official business
· Utility company vehicles and personnel, including contract personnel supporting utility response and restoration efforts
· Personnel directly supporting storm response operations, including but not limited to emergency shelter personnel
· Personnel supporting human services facilities, including but not limited to residential housing programs and human services shelter operations
· Healthcare personnel, including but not limited to home healthcare personnel and personal care assistants
· Personnel delivering or supporting services at healthcare facilities, including those that provide long term care and mental health care, as well as hospitals and other healthcare facilities
· Vehicles and personnel providing critical supplies to healthcare facilities, including those that provide long term care and mental health care, as well as hospitals and other healthcare facilities
· News media
· Private sector snow removal equipment engaged in, or traveling in connection with the removal or clearance of snow and ice from public or private sector facilities
· Patients traveling for the purpose of receiving urgent critical care, and persons traveling with those patients who are necessary to facilitate that urgent critical care
· Travel necessary to maintain critical private sector facilities, services and operations, and to deliver or support critical private sector services and supplies in critical infrastructure sectors such as energy, fuel, financial systems, and the provision of critical commodities
· Travel to support business operations that provide critical services to the public, including gasoline stations, pharmacies, food stores and hardware stores

Senate to Vote on Bill Protecting Local Businesses from Long-Unchanged Unit Pricing Threshold
Senate to Vote on Bill Protecting Local Businesses from Long-Unchanged Unit Pricing Threshold
Ways and Means Committee Backs Legislation Ahead of Thursday Debate
(BOSTON—2/23/2026) The Senate Committee on Ways and Means advanced legislation today to support neighborhood markets, bodegas, convenience stores, and family-owned grocery shops across Massachusetts by ensuring that smaller establishments will continue to be covered by an exemption from unit pricing.
The full Senate plans to debate the bill—S.2965, An Act updating the unit pricing exemption threshold—during a formal session on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
The legislation amends the statewide unit price exemption by removing sales of Lottery products and gift cards from the calculation of whether a store meets the threshold.
Currently, establishments are not required to include a unit price on items if they generate less than $5 million in in-store sales each year, including sales of Lottery products and gift cards. That threshold is more easily exceeded now due to inflation, higher-value Lottery products, and increased popularity of pre-paid gift cards.
While unit pricing can provide a useful price-comparison tool for shoppers at grocery stores and big box stores, it could pose a burden for smaller corner stores and convenience stores where unit price shopping is unlikely to occur. For this reason, Massachusetts created an exemption from unit price display requirements for retail stores with lower sales volumes.
A version of the legislation was reported favorably on November 5, 2025 by the Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure after an opportunity for public input at a hearing held October 1, 2025. The bill was originally filed by Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury).
The Senate Ways and Means Committee also voted today to advance bills dealing with specific parcels of land in Cambridge (S.2966), Revere (S.2967), Milton (S.2968), Stoneham (H.4643), and Brockton (H.4768).
The bills will be debated in the same session as the BRIGHT Act, which the Ways and Means Committee reported to the full Senate last week.
All committee votes are publicly posted on the Legislature’s website. Details of legislation up for consideration by the Senate are included in fact sheets available in the Senate press room.
