Social Security Launches 1^st National my Social SecurityWeek

In honor of the 79^th Anniversary of the Social Security Act, Carolyn W. Colvin, Acting Commissioner of Social Security, invites everyone to celebrate the first National my Social Security Week. From August 17 through 23, 2014, Social Security will host numerous events to highlight the many benefits of a my Social Security account, a personalized online account people can establish atwww.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount beginning in their working years and continuing throughout the time they receive Social Security benefits.

“I am excited about the first National my Social Security Week. A my Social Security account is a convenient, cost-effective and secure way for the public to do business with us from the comfort of their home, office or library,” Acting Commissioner Colvin said.

With a my Social Security account, people can take control of their future by accessing their online Social Security Statement, which is a great financial planning tool that provides workers age 18 and over their complete earnings history and estimates for future retirement, disability and survivors benefits. The Statementallows workers to verify the accuracy of their earnings each year. This is important since earnings are the basis for determining future retirement benefits.  Individuals who currently receive benefits can sign up for a my Social Security account to get an instant benefit verification letter, change their address and phone number, and start or change direct deposit of their benefit payment.

To date, over 13 million people have established an account.  Events during mySocial Security Week include a Twitter chat on “my Social Security and Planning for Your Financial Future;” my Social Security sign-up events nationwide at local churches, libraries, federal government agencies, large employers, youth centers/organizations, senior centers, and colleges and universities; social media outreach including a Thunderclap campaign, and a National radio media tour.

“I am proud Social Security continues to provide world-class customer service that meets the changing needs of the public,” Acting Commissioner Colvin said. “For those who aren’t comfortable with the Internet and prefer to conduct business with us by telephone or face-to-face, we remain committed to maintaining a network of local offices to provide our services.”

Allston Man Charged in Apparent “Peeping Tom” Case

BOSTON, Aug. 19, 2014—A man was arraigned today after Allston residents told Boston Police that he had been lurking around their home, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

GENESIO CASSIMIRO (D.O.B. 3/30/63) of Allston was arraigned in Brighton Municipal Court this morning on charges of trespassing and disorderly conduct.  Assistant District Attorney Michael V. Glennon requested that bail be set in the amount of $1,000; Judge Robert McKenna released Cassimiro on his own recognizance and ordered him to wear a GPS monitor, stay away from the location of the incident, and abide by a curfew.

Glennon told the court that residents of a Gardner Street building contacted Boston Police after observing a man, later identified as Cassimiro standing behind bushes at the rear of the building for an extended period of time.  Multiple residents reported seeing the same man lurking around the home at night on several occasions in the past two weeks, each time placing his phone to his ear when witnesses made visual contact with him, prosecutors said. 

After speaking with witnesses, officers located Cassimiro behind the bushes at the rear of the building, where they observed him facing the apartment’s window, prosecutors said.  He allegedly told police that he was in the bushes to urinate.

No link has been established between this case and another, similar case from Allston that remains under investigation by Boston Police.  Anyone with information is urged to contact detectives at (617) 343-4256.

Latest Seasonally Unadjusted Job and Unemployment Estimates for Local Labor Markets in Massachusetts

BOSTON MA – August 19, 2014 – The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) today reported that the seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates for July were up in 19 labor market areas; down in two areas; and one area remained unchanged according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.  Over the year, unemployment rates were down in all the labor market areas.

The preliminary statewide unadjusted unemployment rate estimate for July was 6.1 percent, up 0.5 of a percentage point from June.  Over the year, the statewide unadjusted rate was down 1.2 percent from the July 2013 rate of 7.3 percent.

During July, four of the 12 areas for which job estimates are published recorded seasonal job gains.  The largest job gain was in the Barnstable area followed by the Boston-Cambridge-Quincy, Pittsfield and Lowell-Billerica-Chelmsford areas.  Losses occurred in the remaining eight areas, the largest of which was in Springfield followed by Worcester, New Bedford, Framingham and Leominster-Fitchburg-Gardner. Since July 2013, all 12 areas added jobs with the largest percentage gains in the Worcester, Boston-Cambridge-Quincy, Haverhill-North Andover-Amesbury, Peabody, Framingham and Springfield areas.

The seasonally adjusted statewide July unemployment rate, released on August 14, was 5.6 percent, up 0.1 of a percentage point over the month and down 1.6 percent over the year.  The rate is still the lowest since August 2008 and is below the 6.2 percent national unemployment rate. The statewide seasonally adjusted jobs estimate showed a 13,800 job gain in July and an over the year gain of 67,300 jobs.

The labor force, unemployment rates and jobs estimates for Massachusetts, and for every other state, are based on several different statistical methodologies specified by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The unadjusted unemployment rates and job estimates for the labor market areas reflect seasonal fluctuations and therefore may show different levels and trends than the statewide seasonally adjusted estimates.

紐英崙至孝篤親公所慶中秋發獎學金

紐英崙至孝篤親公所600多名宗親，8月16日晚在龍鳳酒樓召開會員大會，分享月餅慶中秋節，發出18000元獎學金，鼓勵18名子弟勤奮向學，還提醒宗親行孝要及時。

            如今已高齡八十餘歲，曾經是紐英崙中華公所最年輕主席的陳毓璇，念及“中秋節”是中國講究“人月兩團員”的日子，但在美出生、長大的後輩，受中國文化熏陶不夠多，特地敦促公所幹部製作了一張小卡片，畫著嫦娥奔月圖案，寫上“樹欲靜而風不息，子欲養而親不在”的中英文對照字句，提醒

年輕一輩要及時孝敬，陪伴父母，以免將來後悔莫及。

紐英崙至孝篤親公所主席陳滋源，陳禮當晚做族務報告，說明過去一年，至孝篤親公所舉辦稅務，健身等講座，探訪慰問耆英，捐款幫助中華頤養院擴建，匡扶紐英崙中華公所圖書館成立。他們強調，宗親會的存在，就是為了幫助宗親在美安居樂業，交流情誼，生活愉快，希望宗親們有任何需要，儘管和公所幹部溝通。

當晚的慶祝活動，由陳黃海蘭，陳禮分任二樓，三樓的司儀。二樓有波士頓市不分區市議員吳弭，參選麻州總檢察官的杜文（Warren Tolman ），駐頗士頓臺北經濟文化辦事處副處長陳銘俊等嘉賓致詞，三樓有曾任至孝篤親公所主席的陳廣漢主持遊戲節目。每桌還各放了五個月餅，共宗親分享。司儀還提醒宗親，為遵循麻州政府團體組織登記法，務請宗親填表，登記成為會員，以俾今年十一月順利辦理幹部改選。

        紐英崙至孝篤親公所的獎學金，今年共有三十一人申請，廿人符合資格，其中兩人其後婉謝，結果共發給十八人，每人各一千元獎學金。

            紐英崙至孝篤親公所是波士頓華埠內資產豐足的姓氏團體之一，擁有多棟物業，孳息全用於公所營運，做善事，發獎學金等。

            當晚用於助興，抽獎的三千元，也來自公所物業營運收入。

            今年的中秋節正日是陽曆九月八日。

成大校友會夏日燒烤野餐競獻歌藝嚐手工月餅

新英格蘭成大校友會上週末在牛頓市奧本代爾灣（Auburndale Cove）公園舉辦年度烤肉野餐會，三，四十名校友歡聚，暢敘，高歌，其樂無窮。

            柯曼雯是新英格蘭成大校友會的首位女會長。為了讓校友們重溫每年一度的戶外樂趣，早於將近一個月前，她就和陳志芬，林意棟，任中立，王子仁，以及副會長黃俊義等多人，抽空參加大波士頓中華文化協會在同一地點舉行的夏日燒烤會，實地觀摩地形，編排節目。

        同為成大校友的柯曼雯和夫婿劉泰國，都是大波士頓中華文化協會的卡拉OK骨幹成員，高歌幾曲自然成了野餐會這天的重頭餘興節目。

任中立，羅芬這對愛唱歌的資深成大校友夫婦，夫唱婦隨的在社團活動中獻唱，早就出了名，這天以一首“相逢在夕陽下”率先開唱。

柯曼雯笑說，校友們的歌聲，好到可以不放伴場音樂的“裸唱”，一樣優美動人。

            復興劇校畢業，擅演京劇，教授扯鈴，名牌上聲明自己是成大媳婦的朱友珍就很捧場，以歌星的嗓音，唱姿，裸唱“巧合”，“獨上西樓”兩曲，博得熱絡掌聲。她還把從費城遷來波士頓甫年餘的好朋友焉曉華貢獻出來，親手做了60個黑豆餡的小月餅，以及桂圓核桃糕。吃到人都讚不絕口。

            愛唱歌的劉泰國，為了給嬌妻撐場面，也一連演唱”綠島小夜曲“，”在那遙遠的地方“兩曲。他邊唱邊拿著小抄看歌詞，還提醒出席男生別忘了借歌獻情，向自己親愛的另一半說幾句甜言蜜語。

            當天會上還有個感人場面。新英格蘭成大校友會的創辦人之一兼首屆會長沈邦全，在妻子韓拱宸，前任會長陳立人，以及劉泰國等人陪同下，演唱了”梅花“等兩首歌。韓拱宸表示，醫生說，沈邦全要常常唱唱歌，身體會更好。

            成大環醫所教授郭浩然的妻子，在長榮大學企管系教英文的曾妍娟，以前也住在大波士頓，這趟回來度假，正好遇上成大校友會的野餐會。她在曾任校友會會長的張重華介紹後開心的說，自己運氣真好，遇上這個聚會，可以一下子見到這麼多校友，老朋友。

包括歷任會長的楊儒釗，王慕華，張重華，陸德禮，王本仁，趙章績，蔡明機，王子仁，徐世勳等，當天共有不下四十人出席。

潮州同鄉會夏日遊 學抓龍蝦品嚐啤酒

(Boston Orange) 紐英崙潮州同鄉會日前組團郊遊，由會長楊克敬帶隊，搭乘見聞旅遊公司大巴，跋涉兩個小時，到緬因州登船參觀捕龍蝦，遊啤酒廠，逛農場果園，歡度豐富一日。

潮州同鄉會副會長鍾炳南表示，住在大波士頓的潮州鄉親，幾乎每個人都吃過龍蝦，但知道龍蝦是怎麼抓的人，卻屈指可數。這天導遊邊指點他們看抓龍蝦，邊解釋，緬因州漁業法有規定，達到某種尺寸的龍蝦才可以抓。遇上稀有品種龍蝦，也不可以任意捕捉。

            第二站是參觀Budwiser啤酒廠。他們邊看啤酒釀造過程，邊品嚐各種口味啤酒，鄉親們談笑風生，不醉也醺。

            喝過啤酒後，又去參觀農場，果園。潮州鄉親們倘佯在大自然中，親自採摘自己看上眼的水果，蔬菜，心情格外愉快，一夥人一直玩到夕陽西下，還流連忘返，相約下次再遊。
