Dr. Tommy Chang announces BPS Transition Team  Team will establish a 'listen and learn' tour and create a 100-day plan

A message from Incoming Superintendent Dr. Tommy Chang   Dr. Tommy Chang, who will assume the position of Boston Public Schools (BPS) superintendent in July, today announced details of the district's transition team. The team is comprised of 35 people representing a deep understanding of public education in the City of Boston and bringing a wide variety of perspectives from inside and outside the school district. The team will begin meeting later this month.    "I'm eager to bring this diverse group of committed individuals together as we imagine what the future holds for the Boston Public Schools," said Dr. Chang. "We have an ambitious agenda, and I'm confident this group will help establish a strong foundation as we transition to a new chapter for our schools." Among the key initiatives the transition team will immediately focus on is embarking on a 'listen and learn' tour that will ultimately help establish a 100-day entry plan to guide the district during the first semester of the 2015-2016 school year and beyond. 波士頓馬拉松賽歷屆冠軍回波士頓與盛

 Morio Shigematsu, 74, is celebrating his 50th anniversary of winning the 1965 race in a then-course record of 2:16:33. Interestingly, less than two months after winning the Boston Marathon he would set a  then-world record of 2:12:00 at the Polytechnic Marathon in England. Shigematsu celebrated his anniversary by competing in the B.A.A. 5K on Saturday.

·         Bill Rodgers, 67, is celebrating his 40th anniversary of winning the 1975 race (2:09:55) and 35th anniversary of 1980 win (2:12:11). Rodgers is one of only four men to win at least four Boston Marathon titles and is the last American winner to repeat as champion, claiming three straight titles from 1978 through 1980.  Rodgers also won four New York City Marathon crowns, was the Grand Marshal at last year’s Boston Marathon, and is a John Hancock Elite Team Ambassador.

·         Geoff Smith, 61, won the 1984 race in 2:10:34 and returned in 1985 to defend his title in 2:14:05. While a senior at Providence College in 1984, he used his Boston Marathon win to qualify for the British Olympic team. Smith is a two-time Olympian for Great Britain who now lives in Massachusetts and is one of the very few athletes who has run a sub-four minute mile and also broken 2:10:00 in the marathon.

·         Lisa Rainsberger, 53, is the last American to win the women’s open division at the Boston Marathon. A native of Michigan, she has also won the Chicago marathon twice.  This year she will be the Boston Marathon’s Elite Women’s Division Official Starter. After running the B.A.A. 5K on Saturday, Rainsberger will run the Boston Marathon on Monday to celebrate the anniversary of her win. Rainsberger won the 1985 race in 2:34:06, and is celebrating her 30th anniversary as champion.

·         Gelindo Bordin, 56, has the distinct honor of being the first man to win both an Olympic gold medal in the marathon and a Boston Marathon title over the course of his career. In 1990 he won the Boston Marathon in a time of 2:08:19. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea, he claimed the Olympic gold medal in the marathon with a time of 2:10:32. He is the only Boston Marathon champion ever from Italy. Bordin finished the 2014 Boston Marathon in 4:10:37 and plans to run this year’s Boston Marathon.

·         Cheri Blauwet, 34, came to Boston as a medical student at Stanford University, broke free over the Newton Hills, and went on to win the 2004 Boston Marathon crown in 1:39:53. In 2005 she retained her title, winning by over three minutes in 1:47:45. Among her many other accomplishments, she has won medals at the Paralympics, and has traveled the world to promote and enhance disability rights.

Many other Boston Marathon champions, pioneers, and significant figures in race history will also be in town to participate in Boston Marathon weekend in a number of ways.

Joan Samuelson, 57, two-time (1979, 1983) Boston Marathon champion and winner of the inaugural women’s Olympic Marathon in 1984 will run the 2015 Boston Marathon after having won her age division in 2014 (2:52:10). Amby Burfoot, 68, returns to run the Boston Marathon one year after finishing in 4:42:48. Greg Meyer, Lorraine Moller, Sara Mae Berman, Jack Fultz, Roberta (Bobbi) Gibb, Nina Kuscsik, and Uta Pippig are among other Boston Marathon champions who are in Boston for the 119th Boston Marathon.

  哈佛中國論壇在四月底舉行本年度會議前，先辦一場“中國人的馬拉松賽經驗談”活動。

(Boston Orange 周菊子波士頓報導)第119 屆波士頓馬拉松賽的 26.2英哩正式比賽，將於四月廿日（週一）的愛國者日舉行。波士頓體育會表示，今年將有三萬多名正式參賽者，其中五千四百多人來自美國以外的八十六個國家。

根據波士頓體育會公佈的參賽者名單資料，其中國籍為中國大陸的參賽者有七十五人，來自台灣的有廿二人，來自香港的竟然最多，有八十二人。

這些參賽者，美國居民的報名費為美人一百七十五元，來自其他國家者，美人二百廿五元。四月廿日這天，他們將分成紅白藍黃組，從早上十點起至十一點十五分，依序出發。101號到七千號為最先出發的紅組。

去年組隊參賽的萬科集團，今年也將參賽。萬科集團總經理郁亮已定明（十九）日下午兩點半，率萬科馬拉松團隊，在哈佛大學校園內舉辦與大波士頓人見面會。

包括田同生，羅昭行，吳子富，劉愛名，王德源，李小白等人將在哈佛中國論壇，哈佛中國學生學者聯合會合辦的“見面會”中，分享“中國人的波士頓馬拉松經驗”。

來自台灣的廿二名參賽者，將於四月十九日晚，由波克萊台灣商會做東，在新月宮餐廳，為他們接風。

波士頓清華校友會也特地選在四月十八日舉辦年會暨校慶聚會，順便幫已取得參加馬拉松賽資格的校友們打氣。

波士頓體育會以及大波士頓會議及遊客局（GBCVB）表示，今年的波士頓馬拉松賽，估計可謂大波士頓的經濟，帶來一億八千一百九十萬元的收益。

波士頓體育會表示，全世界將有來自二百多個媒體的一千兩百多人報導這場比賽。

            2014年的波士頓馬拉松賽，為大波士頓帶來了一億七千八百萬元的收入，共有32,458名選手參賽，僅比波士頓馬拉松賽一百週年那一年的38,708人少些。

             (Boston Orange 周菊子波士頓報導)麻州州長查理貝克（Charlie Baker），波士頓市長馬丁華殊（Martin Walsh)和AT&T移動部門執行長Glenn Lurie等人，昨（十七）日聯袂揭曉AT&T的波士頓馬拉松賽手機盒。該手機盒的收入，將分別捐給波士頓體育會（BAA），紅襪隊基金會，麻州總醫院的“本壘項目”。

            美國大電信服務公司之一的AT&T，於2012年到2014年間，在波士頓一帶投資了四億元，鋪設電信網路。四月初，又在波士頓波約斯頓街（Boylston）699號，離波士頓馬拉松賽終點線僅咫尺之遙處，新開了一家佔地九千平方呎大零售店。

            AT&T移動部門執行長Glenn Lurie表示，為慶祝該公司推出大波士頓的最大一家AT&T零售店面，也為向波士頓馬拉松賽致敬，他們特地推出一款只在該店出售，售罄就絕版的波士頓馬拉松賽手機盒。

            該手機盒適用於iPhone 5S， iPhone 6，iPhone 6 Plus，Samsung Galaxy S5等型號的手機，採用波士頓馬體育會批准的圖案與黃底色彩，僅此一款，售價三十元。其中九元將捐給波士頓體育會（BAA），八點五元將捐給紅襪基金會，以及麻州總醫院的“本壘項目（Home Base program）“。

            AT&T的公關公司Duffy&Shanley表示，這款手機盒是限量版，售罄就絕版了。但該公司並未透露供銷售的數量到底有多少。

            查理貝克在儀式中指出，對大多數的社區來說，主街或市中心的是否興旺，是人們辨識該地區是否繁榮的根據，AT&T的投資，說明了該公司對波士頓的信心。此外，儘管波士頓市和馬拉松賽都已經國際聞名，但他要強調波士頓馬拉松賽是波士頓這地方的比賽，是大波士頓人都引以為榮的地方。他還感謝AT&T捐出巨款給“波士頓一基金”，也稱許AT&T投資巨款鋪設人們看不見的無線網路，帶動了麻州的經濟成長。

            馬丁華殊表示，AT&T在波士頓的投資，對波士頓的成長，跨向創新經濟很重要，也輝映了波市府在該店對面，整修波士頓公共圖書館的投資，都將使波士頓更將吸引人。這一週將是波士頓非常熱鬧的一週。

            當天出席活動的嘉賓，包括麻州眾議會議長狄樂歐，波士頓經濟長巴洛斯（John Barros），薩福克郡地方檢察官康雷（Dan Conley），波士頓市議員提多傑克遜（Tito Jackson），波士頓馬拉松傳奇人物Bill Rodgers，波士頓體育會執行長Tom Grilk等人。

HSAPC 探討亞裔在美如何突破困境 更上層樓

“在美國做亞裔（Being Asian in America）”，是亞裔移民進美國逾百年後仍然面對的身份認同困惑。哈佛大學內新成立的“哈佛學生的亞太裔聯盟“，日前為此舉辦會議，探討亞裔在專業上面對的挑戰與解決方案。

            由哈佛大學本科生，以及九個學院，研究系所學生組成的“哈佛學生的亞太裔聯盟（Harvard Students’ Asian Pacific Coalition，簡稱HSAPC）”，為這會議安排了二場主題演講，四場座談，五個工作坊，從各個角度做探討。

講者嘉賓，包括以“憤怒亞裔男（Angry Asian Man）“部落格出名的余菲爾（Phil Yu），曾任道富集團執行副總裁的周榮亞，麻州精神健康署多元文化事務辦公室主任王國書，曾任麻州電信局局長，現為Mintz Levin律師事務所合夥人的陳光耀（Geoff Why），波士頓市議員吳弭，哈佛大學醫學院助理教授陳眾山（Ira Chan），個人遺傳教育計畫共同創辦人暨哈佛大學醫學院遺傳學教授吳婷（譯音，Ting Wu），企業策略師Joon S. Han等不下十六人。

HSAPC在網站上寫著，為什麼亞裔要關心“在美國做亞裔”這個議題，因為哈佛大學校園內的學生，幾乎有四分之一都是亞裔後代，但在校園以外的美國社會，領導層中卻亞裔稀少，儘管亞裔在美國總人口中佔5%，亞裔在律師樓合夥人中只佔2.5%，在國會議員中也只佔2.4%。企業界的執行長就更是少到只有0.3%。

            他們舉辦這會議，是希望探討，到底是哪些因素，阻礙了亞裔踏出校園後的成功之路，亞裔在工作場所，到底面對哪些困境，要克服這些困難，該怎麼做。

            在“把自己從刻板印象中區分出來：樓梯頂端的人（distinguishing the self from the stereotype: top of the ladder）“的其中一場講座中，周榮亞，王國書和自己創辦了律師事務所的Pon Nokham，波士頓長老教會“城市生活（Citylife）“資深牧師Stephen Um等人，從他們各自的成長，就業經驗，和出席者分享看法，心得，也指出亞裔該如何把持自己，別掉進那些刻板化印象所形成的陷阱。

            周榮亞坦言，自己年輕時曾是“憤青”，聽到一般美國人因為刻板印象，輕率使用帶歧視性語言來稱呼，形容亞裔，就滿肚子火，但放眼四看，又找不到和自己有同樣身份背景的可做模範者，十分鬱悶。他因此很早就不斷追問自己，要跨進領導層，得做些什麼準備，非常努力的在各方面完善自己。

            周榮亞指出，中美文化不同，對個人的處境的確有影響，但他認為作為亞裔美人，就要從容遊走於兩種文化之間，享受掌握兩種文化的優勢。例如中國人講究謙虛是美德，美國人講究彰顯自信，舉手投足要佔據足夠空間，作為亞裔就得學會適時適地的不卑不坑。

            也是十幾歲就從香港來移民來美的王國書表示，不論是否亞裔，做為個人，面對的第一個問題，常是定義自己是誰，喜歡什麼。刻板印象其實處處存在，同樣的敢於發言，如果是白人，人們會認為他有自信，是亞裔，就覺得他賣弄聰明，是黑人，卻覺得他激進，就是刻板印象造成的不同反應。王國書因此認為，要應對刻板印象這議題，在工作場所來說，得先摸清楚企業或組織文化，再來調整自己的舉動準則，才更有可能打破所謂的玻璃天花板。他也指周榮亞能夠在道富集團打進領導層，固然是能力極佳，卻也和企業文化給他這條件，有肯為他開路的輔導者（mentor）不無關係。

            HSAPC將於四月十三日晚七點至九點，假該校教育學院Gutman大樓303室，舉辦“探討亞美社區的精神健康”講座，四月廿二日晚六到八點，在該校甘迺迪政府學院L-332，繼續亞美話題。查詢詳情可洽 info@harvardasiancoalition.com。

馬丁華殊說明波士頓馬拉松賽期間安全措施

            (Boston Orange 周菊子波士頓報導)第119屆波士頓馬拉松賽即將於四月廿日舉行，波士頓市長馬丁華殊（Martin Walsh），波市警察局長伊凡斯（William Evans）等人昨（十七）日中午舉行記者會，說明相關安全措施，強調不准使用無人機（drones），預期今年會有個令人愉快的馬拉松賽。

馬丁華殊及伊凡斯表示，今年的安全措施會和去年類似，請民眾提早出門去上班，儘量搭乘公共交通工具進城。

            伊凡斯並說明相關交通限制，包括用作馬拉松賽跑道的波約斯頓街，以及鄰近的紐百利街（Newbury），杭廷頓道（Huntington），都將完全封閉。

            伊凡斯表示，波市府將採取多重安全措施，包括沿路佈置便衣及穿制服的警察，以及偵測炸彈的狗。有意到波約斯頓街（Boylston）觀賽的民眾，最好不要攜帶大包包或揹包，嬰兒推車，冷藏箱等，以免安檢費時。

            他也提醒參觀馬拉松賽的遊人，今年的新規定是不准施放無人機。他說警方將會使用“反無人機科技”，來制止相關行動。

            波士頓市長馬丁華殊表示，波士頓馬拉松賽已經成為大型國際體育競賽，也是所有波士頓人都喜愛的活動，波士頓市府，警察局以及所有合作夥伴，都將盡力保護民眾安全。但他們也要提醒民眾保持警覺，看到任何可疑情況，趕快通知警察。

            波市府公佈的安全措施包括，在馬拉松賽沿路，安裝100個攝像機，在終點線附近，以及後灣區安置五十個觀察點，監看群眾。

            波士頓市部分的馬拉松賽路線，將有十四輛救護車，一百四十名騎自行車的，開救護車，徒步，以及駐守在醫護帳篷的急救人員待命，

            在終點線的兩個大醫療帳篷之外，波士頓公共衛生局將在波士頓廣場（）設置一個小的醫療站，備有內設三十張床的急救巴士。

MAYOR WALSH OUTLINES PUBLIC SAFETY PLANS FOR BOSTON MARATHON
BOSTON – Friday, April 17, 2015 – As the City of Boston prepares for millions of visitors for the 119th Boston Marathon, Mayor Martin J. Walsh today released public safety plans to ensure a successful series of events.

“The Marathon is a major international athletic contest, and a celebration of all that we love about Boston,” said Mayor Walsh. “We have worked together collaboratively, with the Boston Police Department, and all of our partners, to keep everyone safe. We also ask the public for vigilance, and are encouraging everyone, if you see something, say something.”

Public Safety

• Boston Police Department (BPD) will have uniformed and undercover officers along the marathon route.

• Over 100 cameras will be active along the Boston portion of the Marathon route, and upwards of 50 observation points will be set up around the finish line area in the Back Bay to monitor the crowd.

• Spectators are encouraged to leave large items such as backpacks and strollers at home. These items are not banned; however, individuals may be subject to search.

• Call 9-1-1 in an emergency situation and follow @bostonpolice for race safety updates.
• Boston Fire will have walking patrols along the course to respond to incidents. Patrols can call-in additional assets, utilizing the alleys and adjacent roadways to the course. Air quality monitoring will also be carried-out along the route.
• Boston Fire will stage its specialized units for Tech Rescue, Haz Mat, Decon, and additional apparatus at strategic locations on both sides of the course.

Emergency Medical Services

• 14 ambulances will be located along the Boston portion of the race route to support the 24 ambulances providing service coverage throughout Boston.

• 140 Boston EMS personnel will be located along the Boston portion of the race route on bicycles, utility vehicles, foot patrol, and in medical tents, in addition to the crews covering the rest of the City.

• In addition to the two large medical tents in the finish line area, Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) will have a small medical station on the Boston Common with a 30-bed ambulance bus ready to deploy.

Street Closures & Traffic Advisories

Please see attached traffic advisory from the Boston Transportation Department for full traffic and road closure information.

• Vehicle traffic will be prohibited and parking will be restricted on many streets in Boston in the days leading up to the Boston Marathon and on Monday, April 20, 2015.  
• Using the MBTA to travel to and from Boston on Marathon Monday is strongly recommended.  Detailed information on MBTA service can be found at www.MBTA.com.  For a faster return trip, the MBTA advises riders to purchase a round-trip rather than a one-way ticket.
• On Marathon Monday, Newbury Street and Huntington Avenue outbound will be closed to vehicle traffic to allow easier spectator movement in the area.

Emergency Communications

• The City’s Emergency Operations Center will be open on Saturday and Monday to monitor the races. The EOC will be staffed by our city departments, state agencies and our non-profit partners to coordinate the City’s Operational plan.  Additionally, the EOC will monitor the weather, maintain situational awareness regarding the various Marathon events, ​respond to any resource requests from public safety ​and manage family reunification if needed.
• Boston EMS, Police, Fire, and the Office of Emergency Management ​will have personnel assigned to the multi agency coordination center at the Massachusetts Emergency Operation Center in Framingham.
• BPHC will have staffing at the Dispatch Operations Center and Central Medical Emergency Dispatch (CMED) Center where ambulance to hospital communication throughout metropolitan Boston is coordinated.

本次演出由顏毓芬博士擔任指揮，波士頓大學鋼琴家林宜穎擔任伴奏。音樂會將演出被譽為「台灣合唱音樂之父」的呂泉生編曲「在那遙遠的地方」、「遊子吟」、「快樂的聚會」；中文藝術歌曲「人生如蜜」、「星月交輝」、「問鶯燕」；19世紀英國作曲家艾爾加與佛漢威廉斯所作「O Happy Eyes」與「Linden Lea」；新銳作曲家石青如採用知名美學家蔣勳的詞所作「佛手」；活躍於波士頓的鋼琴家及作曲家周鑫泉所譜「城南送別」；輕快逗趣的民歌「雨中即景」；以及由小團演唱一系列的英文流行歌曲；外加隱藏版曲目，邀請您一起來享受合唱音樂的美好。自由入場，歡迎您捐款支持。

MIT CCCS 2015 Spring Concert

May 23^rd, 7:30 PM at MIT Classroom 34-101 (50 Vassar Street, Cambridge)

MIT Cambridge Chinese Choral Society (CCCS) will be performing its 2015 Spring Concert “For that unregrettable Spring” on 5/23 Saturday night 7:30 PM at MIT Classroom 34-101 (Enter from Vassar St.). 

This concert will be conducted by the University of Illinois Choral Conducting DMA Dr. Yufen Yen, and accompanied by current Boston University Piano DMA student I-Ying Lin. Songs including Chinese artistic songs, newly composed Taiwan folk songs.  CCCS will be also be bringing the several English songs to the concert, as well as pop songs performed by the small group.

The Spring concert will be free of charge, and fund raising will be based on individual donations.  Please come and experience the wonderful musical performance that we have prepared.

MIT CCCS will begin recruitment for the Fall of 2015 after the concert in August, if you are interested please come talk to us after the concert or email us directly.
