               (Boston Orange 周菊子綜合報導) 8月19日 (週五) 晚上9點開始，麻州地鐵 (MBTA)橘線全線20個站，就要停駛一個月了，8月18日下午1點半，麻州地鐵才公告，波士頓華埠一帶，將由銀線4號巴士在表面幹道 (Surface Artery) 和尼倫街 (Kneeland) 交叉處，新增一個巴士站。

              波士頓市長吳弭 (Michelle Wu) 和波士頓市街道長 Jascha Franklin-Hodge 經由移民進步辦公室聯絡社區團體代表於8月16日開會討論後，8月17日晚在昆士小學飯堂，吳弭市長和波士頓市議會議長Ed Flynn，波士頓市不分區市議員Michael Flaherty， Erin Murphy，以及波士頓市多名主管，麻州地鐵 (MBTA)的副幕僚長 Angel Donahue-Rodriguez一起，向近百名出席民眾解說市府為華埠爭取到一個巴士站之後，8月18日一早10點半，再在市政府有許多監視屏幕的交通管理中心，說明為紓緩可能發生的交通阻塞，已在關鍵地區規劃出巴士優先或專用道，並封閉某些街道，增加藍自行車數量，波士頓市府強調，為協助市民度過橘線停駛難關，這些日子都在不眠不休的跨部門合作，包括平等內閣 (Equity Cabinet) 也舉辦了一場有300多人參加的橘線停駛最新狀況網上說明會。

              8月18日大約下午一點，波士頓市才公佈一系列更詳盡的因應措施，包括在南端 (South End) 的哥倫布道 (Columbus Ave.) ，以及後灣 (Back Bay) 波約斯頓街 (Boylston) 設置臨時自行車道。持有查理卡者，即使卡內無錢，也可搭乘1A，1及2區的通勤火車 (commuter rail) 。波士頓市在公共圖書館及波士頓市政府備有查理卡，供民眾索取。

              波士頓市為因應市內街道上的行駛車輛，將陡增200多輛接載巴士，預定封閉的街道，或變更的道路動線如下:

將封閉的街道路段有   

政府中心: 在國會街 (Congress) 和華盛頓街 (Washington)之間的州街 (State Street)。

柯普利廣場 (Copley Square): 在聖詹姆士街 (St. James) 和波約斯頓街 (Boylston)之間的達特茅斯街。

牙買加平原 (Jamaica Plan): 在Aborway 街和Williams街之間的(北向)華盛頓街。

將設立停車限制級路線變更的路段有:

沿著麻州地鐵接載巴士路線，將會有停車限制，以容許比典型的麻州地鐵巴士更大，轉彎幅度更寬的接載巴士更容易停靠急轉彎。

波士頓市政府從上週日 (14日)起，已經開始變更街道標記及信號，將把柯普利廣場和政府中心這兩個地點設為交通樞紐。

波士頓市府還和麻州交通廳 (DOT)合作，在劍橋和查理士城、Rutherford道之間的Gilmore 橋，以及Sullivan廣場內設立巴士專用道，以縮減北向巴士路線的往來時間，改善可靠度。

在橘線停駛的第一天，波士頓市鄰里服務局的聯絡員將在橘線地鐵受影響站點協助乘客轉搭車輛。派發針對鄰里設計的替代路線指南。    

              波士頓市長吳弭表示，為因應學校即將開學，波士頓公校系統正在調查所有工作人員，並陸續訪問了約700人，以評估橘線地鐵停駛可能造成的影響。波士頓公校已發出5000張已儲值，可七天免費搭乘地鐵及巴士的查理卡 (Charlie Card) 給學生及其家庭，供學生及家長用以提前試搭各種可行路線。

              七年級及八年級學生的家庭可在波士頓公校交通支援門戶網站，申請搭黃色校巴，不搭地鐵。學生及家長若需援助，可撥打617-635-9520，或發電郵到schoolbus@bostonpublicschools.org。

The BCA Playwright Residency fills the dire need for a residency that holistically supports playwrights’ entire creative process from inception to reading.

BOSTON, MA — Boston Center for the Arts (BCA) is thrilled to announce the new BCA Playwright Residency. This year-long residency has been designed to support three rising Boston-based playwrights in the creation of new work, while protecting the creative control and ownership of their innovative work. The BCA Playwright Residency will provide access to office, rehearsal, and performance space, marketing support, professional mentorship, community partnerships, and workshops.

 

The BCA Playwright residency helps further the playwrights’ creative process by catering support and direction to each artists’ needs. It is a process-based residency where the playwright can focus on a new work–defined at BCA as something that does not exist or is an idea that needs cultivating. 

Specifically, playwrights will  have their own station in a shared office space with their fellow playwright residents. Each resident will have access to five days in the Black Box Theatre or Martin Hall in the Calderwood Pavilion, for a mid-year workshop of the play. Playwrights will have a budget to cast actors and dramaturgs; and the option to seek industry feedback. To conclude the residency, there will be a final staged reading in the Plaza Theatre.

Like other residency programs at BCA, the BCA Playwright Residency aims to gather a diverse and inclusive community of artists for the purpose of supporting innovative work across disciplines, connecting artists with peers and resources, and providing a vibrant platform for new art in Boston. Each application will be evaluated based on the artist's demonstration of experimentation, responsiveness, balance, community engagement, and potential impact.

BOSTON – This week, Governor Charlie Baker nominated Sarah F. Jubinville as Associate Justice of the District Court.

 

“Attorney Jubinville’s years of experience in the public sector and in private practice make her well-prepared for the judiciary,” said Governor Charlie Baker. “If confirmed, she will be a valuable addition to the District Court.”

 

“Having served as an Assistant Clerk Magistrate, Attorney Jubinville has deep knowledge of the court system and the individuals who come before it,” said Lt. Governor Karyn Polito. “We are pleased to submit her name to the Governor’s Council for their advice and consent.”

 

The District Court hears a wide range of criminal, civil, housing, juvenile, mental health, and other types of cases. District Court criminal jurisdiction extends to all felonies punishable by a sentence up to five years, and many other specific felonies with greater potential penalties; all misdemeanors; and all violations of city and town ordinances and by-laws. The District Court is located in 62 courts across the Commonwealth.

Judicial nominations are subject to the advice and consent of the Governor’s Council. Applicants for judicial openings are reviewed by the Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC) and recommended to the governor. Governor Baker established the JNC in February 2015 pursuant to Executive Order 558, a non-partisan, non-political Commission composed of volunteers from a cross-section of the Commonwealth's diverse population to screen judicial applications. Twenty-one members were later appointed to the JNC in April 2015.

 

About Sarah F. Jubinville

Sarah F. Jubinville began her legal career as an intern in the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office in 1998, as well as a secretary in the Family Protection Unit and later in the Brockton District Court Office until 2002. In 2003, Attorney Jubinville became an associate attorney at McGivney, Kluger & Gannon, P.C. before joining Colucci, Colucci, Marcus & Flavin, P.C. as an associate focused on civil litigation cases until 2010. Attorney Jubinville then began her own practice as a solo practitioner at the Law Offices of Sarah F. Jubinville where she handled cases in a variety of civil and criminal litigation matters. In 2017, Attorney Jubinville joined the Plymouth County Superior Court Clerk’s Office as Assistant Clerk Magistrate, a position she still holds today. Registration to be held within the B.A.A.’s online platform, Athletes’ Village, from September 12–16

 

BOSTON— With less than a month remaining until registration begins for the 127^th Boston Marathon, the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced additional registrant information for next April’s race. The 127^th Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023, featuring a field size of 30,000 participants.

 

Registration will take place over five days, opening on Monday, September 12 at 10:00 a.m. ET and closing on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. ET. The B.A.A. will use the same registration process for qualified runners as it used for the 2021 and 2022 races, allowing any athlete who has achieved a currently valid Boston Marathon qualifying time to submit a registration application between September 12–16, 2022 through the B.A.A.’s online platform, Athletes' Village.

 

Registration is not on a first-come, first-served basis and applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, September 16. The 2023 Boston Marathon qualifying window began on September 1, 2021 and will close at 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, September 16.

 

Qualifying standards for the 127th Boston Marathon can be found here. Qualifiers may submit an application at any point during the registration window. Achieving one’s qualifying standard does not guarantee acceptance into the Boston Marathon. Those who are fastest among the pool of applicants in their age and gender group will be accepted. All applicants will receive notice of acceptance or non-acceptance in October.

 

The entry fee for qualifiers will be $225 USD for United States residents and $235 USD for international residents. For the third straight year, participants will have the opportunity to purchase registration insurance at the point of registration. Additional 127^th Boston Marathon registration information can be found on baa.org.

 

The B.A.A. encourages all participants to be fully up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations prior to participating in the 127^th Boston Marathon. At this time, proof of vaccination will not be required for participation in the 2023 Boston Marathon. However, all participants are expected to follow B.A.A. protocols and procedures related to COVID-19 mitigation and public health including, but not limited to, potential proof of negative testing, potential proof of vaccination, and wearing a face mask in designated areas. B.A.A. COVID-19 mitigation efforts are subject to change and will be guided by policies and procedures established by the CDC, state, and local public health officials in the lead up to April’s event.

 

The qualifying window for the 128th Boston Marathon, scheduled to take place on April 15, 2024, will begin on September 1, 2022. Registration details for that race will be announced following the 2023 Boston Marathon

BOSTON - Thursday, August 18, 2022 - Today, Mayor Michelle Wu announced the launch of the Legacy Business Program, an initiative that will support longstanding, independent businesses in Boston through increased visibility and connecting them with City services and grant opportunities.  “Our legacy businesses serve as anchors in our neighborhoods, expand opportunities for our residents and build community through Boston,” said Mayor Michelle Wu. “I’m thrilled to announce this program and I look forward to uplifting these treasured businesses and connecting them with the City’s services and resources.” The Legacy Business Program will identify 25 iconic businesses that have been in operation for more than 10 years. Bringing this type of notoriety to businesses can help turn our neighborhoods into destinations and drive spending and pedestrian traffic into these local commercial districts.  Businesses like these are neighborhood institutions that have helped to shape the construct of our City and, with increased visibility, the goal is to ensure that these legacy businesses can avoid displacement, grow their influence, keep residents employed, and enrich the cultural vibrancy of the City of Boston. “This initiative is an opportunity for the city to honor the commitment, investment, and impact small business owners have made in our communities for decades,” said Segun Idowu, Chief of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion. “I am proud to have worked alongside Mayor Wu and our small business team, led by Aliesha Porcena, to deliver on a promise to our legacy businesses. It is a business that contributes to the cultural, historical, and societal assets of Boston’s community or neighborhood (e.g. the business is located in the Little Saigon cultural district). It is a business that maintains its business in the City once designated as a Legacy Business. Once a business has been designated as a Legacy Business, they have access to a number of resources. To increase visibility, they will be featured as a Legacy Business on City digital platforms. The City will also form partnerships with external stakeholders to promote each business as well as provide targeted technical assistance with a focus on succession planning and employee ownership, a commercial lease toolkit, and free legal consultation.  “The Legacy Business Program gives Boston residents the opportunity to be part of the program and allows for them to share their stories of a local business and their impact within our neighborhoods,” said Aliesha Porcena, Director of Small Business. “We want to make sure all 23 neighborhoods in Boston are represented through this program, and provide resources and support to ensure these businesses remain vibrant within our communities.”  “This investment in our locally-grown legacy businesses is crucial to lift up our neighborhoods and main streets, especially in District 4 where our small businesses are the lifeblood of our communities and reflect the rich diversity of our City,” said Councilor Brian Worrell, Chair to the Boston City Council Small Business and Professional Licensure Committee. “I look forward to continuing to work with the mayor and her administration to provide more pathways for small business owners to thrive in our City.”  To celebrate, businesses will receive a plaque and a special badge to feature on their storefront, with a coordinated visit and photo-opportunity with a representative from the Mayor’s Office of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion, their City Councilor(s), Main Streets, and their nominating party. For additional support, businesses will be able to access the recently established $1 million Legacy Business Grant Fund to stabilize ongoing operations and rent, or to invest in physical improvements. For businesses that are 30 years or older – or Legacy+ Businesses – they will be eligible to receive a narrative video featured on social media, the city’s website, and other locations.  The program will launch after Labor Day on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 allowing for residents to nominate their favorite local eligible business. Nomination forms will be available online in 10 different languages as well as in paper form and located at local branches of the Boston Public Library, Main Streets offices, and neighborhood organizations. Residents will only be able to nominate one business per cycle. The Economic Opportunity and Inclusion team will then work with the Boston City Council and the Legacy Business Review Committee to submit 25 recommendations to the Mayor for final approval, helping to ensure that these recommendations represent the rich diversity and heritage of our neighborhoods.                  (Boston Orange 周菊子波士頓報導) 北美洲舜裔篤親公所第六屆懇親大會於8月14，15兩日在波士頓盛大舉行，既有僑委會委員長徐佳青遠道而來，送上「團結宗誼」賀聯，更有波士頓市長吳弭 (Michelle Wu) 親自出席，讓來自6地的百餘名代表備感榮耀。

            在兩日的聯誼、交流後，來自沙加緬度、羅省、芝加哥、紐約、羅德島、波士頓等六地的公所代表，推選出波士頓的陳建立接任總理，羅省的袁慕璋接任副總理。來自沙加緬度的陳榮良光榮卸任。

            懇親大會於8月14日開幕。當天一大早，北美舜裔篤親公所的各埠代表先齊聚波士頓華埠夏利臣街的紐英崙至孝篤親公所會址，歡迎僑委會副委員長徐佳青，並由本地公所正副主席陳文珊、陳鐵堅率領，上香、敬酒祭祖，在司禮陳黃美蘭宣讀中，向近二年辭世的陳毓璇等3名元老，陳文浩副總理等人默哀致意。

            中午時分，篤親公所宗親們在公所門外排開座椅，迎接波士頓市長吳弭加入陣容，接受洪青體育會，胡青白鶴派，華林功夫太極學校，以及宗親胡炳超創辦的超武館等瑞獅獻吉祥，為懇親大會揭開序幕。

          當晚在帝苑大酒樓舉行的公宴，近年極少出席公開活動的紐英崙至孝篤親公所元老陳毓禮，也由兒子陳孟君陪同出席。紐英崙至孝篤親公所還藉機同時舉行了獎學金頒獎典禮，由獎學金委員會主委陳健榮、陳麗兒等人頒發給17名正在哈佛等約10所不同大學中就讀的大學生，讓年輕人接觸族務，培養對宗族公所的認同感。

          駐波士頓台北經濟文化辦事處處長孫儉元、波士頓僑教中心主任潘昭榮之外，當晚還有洪門致公堂全美總理余麗媖，紐英崙中華公所主席雷國輝，麻州眾議員黃子安，薩福克郡治安官Steve Tompkins，薩福克郡地方檢察官Kevin Hayden，波士頓消防局局長Paul Burke，副局長黃瑞瑜 (Connie Wong)等嘉賓出席。

                    8月15日晚，紐英崙中華公所率本地僑團代表，在帝苑大酒樓席開15桌，回請北美舜裔篤親公所各埠代表，還大合唱一首「朋友」，聊表各姓氏宗親都是朋友的心意。

          懇親會議結束後，各地宗親還在主辦單位安排下，參加加拿大四日遊。二年一度的北美洲舜裔篤親公所懇親大會，下一次將再到加州舉行。

波克萊台商會承辦「台灣美食節」 大廚 9月8、9兩日來授課

               (Boston Orange) 波克萊台商會承辦，僑委會從台灣派出2名大廚支援的波士頓「台灣美食節」已確定將於9月8日、9日兩天，依序在波士頓的安良工商會會所，昆士市的龍鳳大酒樓舉行。

            2名大廚為曾獲得2013年鳳凰城東西料理鐵人大賽冠軍，現為度小月擔仔麵餐廳行政總主廚，御軒食品公司顧問的潘盟仁，以及曾獲中華美食展國際熱食創意賽銀牌獎，現在啟英高中擔任餐飲科技術教師，同時是桃園縣餐飲工會常務理事，中天娛樂台《冰冰好料理》人氣主廚的蔡萬利。

            9月8日 (週四)，早上11點至下午2點，2名大廚將在波士頓華埠的安良工商會會址 (20 Hudson Street, 4F, Boston, MA 02111)，現場示範教授” 台菜家常料理” 中的” 五香雞捲” ，” 萬巒豬腳” ，” 檸檬燒雞” 等3樣菜餚。

            9月9日 (週五)晚6點到7點教學，7點到10點晚宴。2名大廚將在昆士市龍鳳大酒樓 (237 Quincy Ave, Quincy, MA 02169) 教授製作豬肉貢丸，然後率領龍鳳大酒樓廚師團隊，推出經典台菜晚宴。

            波克萊台商會表示，原本有意敦請難得來到波士頓的台灣大廚多教幾道菜，但商量後，了解到採購食材，預做準備的時間有限，這才只選定了4樣菜餚教授，不過將歡迎報名上課的學員們，現場提問。
