美國第39任總統卡特今日辭世 享年100歲

             (Boston Orange) 美國第39任總統吉米卡特 (Jimmy Carter) 今日 (12月29日) 在喬治亞州的家中辭世，享年100歲。麻州州長奚莉 (Maura Healey) 下令，所有州政府樓宇的美國國旗及麻州州旗，即日起至2025年1月28日降半旗，以示追悼。

              吉米·卡特(Jimmy Carter) 是美國史上享壽最高的總統，在1977到1981年的動盪年代中，當了一任總統，其後成為世界上的人權領袖之一。

              卡特總統早在2015年就宣佈過患上肝癌，但醫生成功的控制了病情，讓他直到90多歲時都依然活躍，行程很滿。2023年2月，他決定不再進一步以醫療行為干預病情，隨後進入居家安寧護理狀態。他的兒子詹姆斯卡特三世 (James E. Carter III) 今日宣佈了卡特總統的死訊。

              麻州州長奚莉在發表的聲明中表示，卡特總統一生致力追求和平，人權、民主和道德清晰。他為服務他人意味著什麼樹立了不朽榜樣，他遺留下來的傳奇事蹟將繼續激勵子孫後代。 在卡特家人和美國經歷這深遠的損失之際，願大家以打造更正義、和平及友愛的世界來紀念他。

              民主黨麻州黨主席Steve Kerrigan也發表了悼念聲明，稱卡特總統是一位樂觀的人，也是一位真正的，如僕人般服侍人民的領袖，他對世界，以及對所碰觸到生命的衝擊，是無法衡量的。今日紀念其一生的服務奉獻，希望在未來的日子裏，人們將經由卡特總統的一生事蹟，提醒自己，一個人也可以帶來的改變。

Governor Healey Orders Flags at Half-Staff in Honor of President Jimmy Carter  

BOSTON – Today, Governor Maura Healey ordered the United States of America flag and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts flag to be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings until January 28, 2025 in honor of the life and legacy of former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away today.  

“President Carter lived a life dedicated to peace, human rights, democracy and moral clarity. He set an enduring example of what it means to serve others, and his legacy will continue inspire generations to come,” said Governor Maura Healey. “I'm sending love and strength to the Carter family as they, and our nation, process this profound loss. May we all honor his memory by building a more just, peaceful and caring world.”
