中華民俗藝術工作坊將於5月27日(星期日 )下午2時及晚上7:30時， 假Regis College的演藝廳演出兩場年度作品 [The Journey 無盡旅程] ，演出內容包括由多位專業編舞家精雕細琢製作的14支作品，歡迎各位喜愛各項傳統民俗技藝和舞蹈的民眾，前往觀賞，來為所有演出的舞者加油，欣賞他 (她) 們一年來辛苦、認真練習的成果。

工作坊成立至今已有10多年，經常應邀至各地社區學校演出，深獲各界的好評。該團數年來以中華傳統民俗技藝為元素，加入舞蹈、音樂、燈光、服裝、舞台技術及視覺特效的特殊創作，在海外為中華民俗藝術之做一嶄新的詮釋。近幾年來更是全心致力於各項中華民俗技藝的教學與多樣文藝演出，經常應邀至各地文化中心、學校表演，傳遞優良傳統文化。

該團經過一年的蘊釀，濃重推出含蓋舞龍、舞獅、擊鼓、舞蹈與扯鈴等令此間觀眾耳目一新、不易觀賞到的精彩節目。除了原有的芭蕾、民族、武功元素之外，也帶來了時下年輕人喜歡的現代舞，相信一定能會讓觀眾耳目一新， 有不同的視覺感受。

年度舞展幕後製作工程十分浩大，包括音樂，服裝及舞台設計等，都由家長們一起共同完成，並聘請專業舞台燈光師擔負燈光設計重責。團長張 昆表示，經營非營利的青少年團體，誠屬不易，但全體家長都是出錢出力，雖然也曾經幾度萌生放棄，然而小朋友的付出與熱情，家長們的全力支持以及觀眾的喝采，讓大家堅持到現在，也造就了工作坊一連串的驚奇與感動。工作坊誠摯邀請大家一同前往觀賞，期待各位共赴饗宴。

中華公所要求開特別會議討論兩宗土地發展案

(Boston Orange) 紐英崙中華公所董事長陳家驊為5月29日，本年度第3次董事大會撰寫的報告出爐，建議中華公所董事會為大同村停車場，以及喜露(Herald)街50號的發展計劃招開特別會議。

陳家驊的這份報告分六點，說明已完成繳交營運報告給麻州總檢察官辦公室的任務，報告和華人佈道會等合作，向市政府爭取”計劃發展區域(PDA)”資格行動面對意外狀況，大同村停車場土地發展招標進展，中華公所大樓因去冬天氣嚴峻，維修翻新需求及開支倍增，中華公所被黃氏公所及黃光野告上法庭現況，中華公所和塔芙茨大學協商獎學金處理辦法等。

在爭取”計畫發展區域”資格一事上，陳家驊指出有兩個情況令人大感意外。一是三一教堂所改建共管公寓大樓”路可思(The Lucas)”的居民，反對聲浪很大，波市府決定六月再開會討論此事。

另一更叫人詫異的意外是，堡壘村居民組織的代表，以不實資訊為依據，反對得比

“路可思”居民還強烈。先是說中華公所等了30年都沒拿出建可負擔住宅的計劃，最近右和中國超市(C-Mart)簽下長期租約，接著還說中華公所威脅持反對態度的該村居民，在公聽會中，試圖把該村居民趕出去。

            5月16日時，改建教堂的發展商，捐了10萬元給堡壘村居民組織。

            大同村停車場的發展案，目前已有Winn，Beacon，亞美社區發展協會等三個機構提案競標。中華公所希望召開特別會議，討論喜露街與大同村停車場的土地發展案。

            關於黃氏公所和黃光野控告中華公所一事，陳家驊指出，坊間流傳很多不實資訊，但他相信中華公所董事們應該都知道的事實是，黃氏公所和黃光野是此案原告。

            陳家驊強調，此案目前仍在”發現”階段，法院已發出的初步禁制令，旨在延緩中華公所董事會於去年5月9日所做決議的生效期。

            陳家驊指出，換言之，如果原告撤銷告訴，中華公所的決議案就立即生效。黃光野的顧問頭銜將被剝奪，代表黃氏公所做出席中華公所董事的權利，也暫停三年。

除非雙方達成協議，此案將上法庭審議。

關於塔芙茨大學當年捐給中華公所的獎學金，陳家驊表示正在和塔大協商條款細節，邀請塔大校友提供意見。另外中華公所正在遊說塔大，在晚上時段把以前是青年會所在地，現在是塔大停車場的那塊地，開放給華埠餐館顧客停車。

Gung Ho Club Celebrates Their 70th Anniversary

Boston- The Gung Ho Club, New England's oldest Chinese youth athletic organization, will be celebrating their 70th Anniversary on October 27, 2018 at the Empire Garden Restaurant in Boston’s Chinatown.  Founded in 1948, the Gung Ho Club which is also known as the Boston Chinese Freemasons Athletic Club, offers inner city youth a fraternal organization where they can learn lion dancing, martial arts and other team sports such as 9-Man volleyball and basketball.

Traditionally, every Lunar New Year,  the streets in Boston’s Chinatown are filled with people that come to watch the Gung Ho Club bring good luck to all the business establishments as they perform choreographed lion dance routines.  The Gung Ho Club lion dance team performs all over New England during a month long celebration of the Lunar New Year culminating in an amazing routine at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut.  In addition to New Year celebrations the team performs at weddings, parties, and grand openings of business establishments.

The Gung Ho Club has also made significant strides in becoming more competitive in both volleyball and basketball.  This year they will be sending a volleyball team to Montreal for the annual North American Chinese Invitational Volleyball Tournament.

“I am proud to be part of an organization that helps mentor inner city youth through team sports and teaching traditional lion dance,”  said Victor Lee ,  President of the Gung Ho Club.  “I would like to thank all our sponsors who support us throughout the year because your help allows us to provide our youth with these valuable opportunities.” 

In addition to lion dance performances and sports activities, Gung Ho Club members value their corresponding responsibility of supporting the Chinatown community through volunteer work with youth, elderly programs as well as law enforcement organizations.  Throughout its 70 year history, members of the organization have not only contributed to the community through volunteerism and cultural development but most have gone on to become valuable leaders in the city and nationally working in law enforcement, local politics, corporate and business owners.  All will credit the values instilled to them as a Gung Ho Club member that laid the groundwork for their personal development and future growth.  All donations and contributions to the organization are vital to continuing to build programs and support systems for the Chinese youth while opening future developmental and professional opportunities for them.

紐英崙養生舞協會為老師周美桃慶祝生日

               (Boston Orange) 紐英崙養生舞協會5月23日在中華公所大廳，為創辦人周美桃慶祝生日，感謝她義務教學七年，讓學生們身體更健康，精神更快樂。

               周美桃練養生舞，原本出於個人興趣，由於她認真鑽研，不斷遠遊取經，四處向明師請益，又樂於和人分享所學，於是漸漸聚攏一批練舞同好，組成了養生舞協會。

               其實最開始也只有七，八個人，但是參加練舞的人，練下來都感覺很好，口耳相傳之後，養生舞協會就壯大起來，包括她丈夫馬偉輝，她姐姐黃周麗桃，如今已有會員六，七十人，每星期三、星期五的早上十點至十二點，都在中華公所大廳演練。

               六，七年下來，會員們幾乎每週見面，彼此都變成了好朋友。

               5月23日，養生舞學員們趁例行練舞時間，為周美桃舉行了一場生日會，準備了蛋糕，賀詞，中華書法會會長林卓培還代表書法會，送給周美桃一幅字畫，上書”低調做人，你會一天比一天穩健;高調做事，你會一次比一次優秀;成功的時候不要忘記過去，失敗之時記住還有未來。天道酬勤。共勉之”。

CITY OF BOSTON LAUNCHES 'PLAYFUL BOSTON' A COORDINATED EFFORT TO INCORPORATE INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO CIVIC LIFE

Playful Boston projects will support and further explore the positive impacts of playfulness in unexpected spaces across the city

BOSTON - Friday, May 25, 2018 - The Mayor's Office of New Urban Mechanics (MONUM) today announced the launch of Playful Boston, a coordinated citywide effort to incorporate engaging, innovative and playful approaches to civic life and municipal work. As part of this effort, the city also announced the launch of Play Around the City, a public competition to reimagine Boston Public Schools bus stops with temporary, playful interventions. This competition is an initiative of the Public Space Invitational (PSI), MONUM's program to reimagine Boston's public spaces and make them more intuitive, beautiful and delightful. Research from behavioral scientists and other cities suggests that playful activities in untraditional spaces can increase an individual's learning ability and help develop skills such as collaboration, communication and adaptability. Playful Boston aims to test the impact of playful interventions, events, and spaces on community interactions and civic engagement. The goal is to enhance Boston's existing space-based play areas -- such as our existing network of playgrounds and parks. Playful Boston is a partnership between New Urban Mechanics, the Mayor's Office of Resilience and Racial Equity, and the Mayor's Education Cabinet. "Play and playfulness are critical to building skills for lifelong learning," said Turahn Dorsey, Chief of Education. "Mayor Walsh and the Education Cabinet believe this and are excited to incorporate this consideration into everyday life for all Bostonians. Play Around the City envisions the city as both a classroom and playground that enables younger and older people, alike, to playfully imagine, learn, and connect." Play Around the City is calling for respondents to submit their ideas on how to reimagine Boston Public School bus stops to bring creative, fun, temporary and playful activations for the benefit of students and families. Four bus stops, in the communities of East Boston, Fields Corner, Garrison Trotter, and Roslindale, will be included in the initial round. Play Around the City is a partnership between New Urban Mechanics, the Boston Children's Museum, Playworks New England, and the BuildBPS team. "Play Around the City is an approach for how we can support more curious, collaborative, and resilient future generations," said Lori Nelson, the newly appointed Chief Resilience Officer for the City of Boston. "Equitable access to playful spaces requires approaches that meet Bostonians where they are. This means bus stops, corner markets, laundromats, sidewalks, and more. These are the spaces where communities, young and old, can develop habits of resilience in applied ways." "For 105 years Boston Children's Museum has engaged children and families in joyful discovery experiences," says Kacy Hughes, Senior Manager of Community Engagement at Boston Children's Museum. "We believe in the intrinsic value of play and recognize that play is the vital activity that children use to learn about and interact with their world to gain the mental, physical and social skills necessary to succeed in their adult lives.  Playful learning must be encouraged everywhere that families are gathering. We are thrilled to be part of Play Around the City!" Four projects will be selected for funding, one at each bus stop. Projects must be temporary (4-6 months), ready for implementation within 2-3 months, and meet a budget of $2,000. The most advantageous projects will be those that can be implemented immediately, with succinct and thoughtful plans for implementation. Proposals should have both the potential and plan for scaling to more locations in the future. All applications must outline safety hazards and how they will be mitigated with the proposed playful intervention design. Winning proposals will go through the Public Improvements Commission to ensure the safety of everyone participating in the playful interventions is taken into consideration. "Play is one of the most important ways children, and adults, learn," said Jonathan Gay, Executive Director of Playworks New England. "Playtime helps us be more active, as well as develop crucial social-emotional skills. We're excited to work with the city to create more opportunities for play. And what a great place to start - the bus stops. If we can get citizens of all ages engaged in play at the start and end of their days, I'm confident the entire city will be a happier and healthier place." Cranston Overtakes Warwick as Rhode Island’s Second-Largest City

CRANSTON, RI—The City of Cranston has received national accolades in recent years as one of the top cities to live in America. This week, the city has reached a new milestone by officially surpassing Warwick as Rhode Island’s second-largest city, according to new data released by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The Census’ population estimate for Cranston, according to Census data as of July 1, 2017, is now 81,202. That’s 815 more people residing in Cranston since 2010. Warwick’s current tally is 80,381. In fact, the new numbers released this week show Cranston passed Warwick in 2016, according to a revision of last year’s estimates

“I’m so proud that Cranston’s population continues to grow because it’s a great place to live, work and play,” said Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung. “Along with strong economic development across the entire city, people are flocking to Cranston for our great schools, great restaurants, best-in-state shopping, robust parks and recreation offerings, nationally-accredited police department, nationally-recognized library system, convenient location and more.”

Mayor Fung and his administrative team have been anticipating this milestone for several years after Census data showed the city’s population trending upward after the 2010 Census. The growth has been fueled by a combination of new residential construction, conversion and enhancement of existing properties, migration of residents from other cities and towns into Cranston and turnover of younger families moving into older neighborhoods. And as Cranston’s population has grown, it has become more diverse, enhancing the city’s vibrancy.

“I see Cranston’s continued growth as a sign of our success,” Mayor Fung said. “People want to start a business or live in a city where they can count on stable tax rates, good public services and a good government that spends their tax dollars wisely.”
