President Obama and the First Lady wish everyone happiness, prosperity, fortune, and good health as we celebrate the Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Monkey.
Echoing the President’s message, the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) and the President’s Advisory Commission on AAPIs send our best wishes to all those celebrating the Lunar New Year.
We mark the start of the Lunar New Year with festivals, parades, and lion dances from coast to coast. We share our cultures and traditions with one another not just in celebration of the new year, but also in celebration of the strength of the AAPI community. Our AAPI heritage spans from native people to immigrants to refugees. From our ancestors through our future generations, AAPIs have contributed and continue to contribute to our nation as business owners, students, laborers, educators, and entrepreneurs. As a nation of immigrants, America draws its strength from the many cultures that collectively make up our melting pot and the shared hope in building a nation of opportunities and success for everyone.
2016 is the Year of the Monkey. The monkey is often seen as a symbol of versatility and movement. We wish for a year of positive movement – moving forward on immigration reform, healthcare access, educational opportunities, and much more to help all Americans prosper and succeed.
We wish you and your loved ones happiness, prosperity, fortune, and good health.

Michelle and I send our warmest wishes to everyone celebrating the Lunar New Year across America and around the world. This is a time filled with family, get-togethers, and anticipation for the New Year – a tradition I remember fondly from growing up in Hawaii.
It’s a time that also gives us the opportunity to honor the many contributions of the Americans who celebrate this holiday. Whether they’ve been here for generations or they’re newly arrived, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have helped build our country and make us a beacon to the world. Their stories are woven into our larger story – the patchwork quilt that is America – and they remind us that our strength comes from giving everyone a chance to contribute and welcoming each other into our communities. That’s why Congress needs to reform our broken immigration system. In the meantime, we’ll do what we can to make the system work better for families, workers, students, and entrepreneurs. And we’ll keep fighting to give everyone a fair shot in the year ahead.
The Year of the Monkey emphasizes shared values like leadership, innovation, and progress. It’s an opportunity to cherish the rich heritage that connects children with their past, and the traditions they’ll carry into the future. So to everyone celebrating, from my family to yours, I wish you happiness, prosperity, and good health and fortune during the New Year!

Nhân dịp đầu năm Tết Âm Lịch, chúng tôi xin gởi đến toàn thể quý vị khắp nơi trên Hoa Kỳ và toàn thế giới lời chúc nồng nhiệt nhất cho Một Năm Mới. Đây là thời gian để gia đình đoàn tụ, thân quyến họp mặt đón mừng Năm Mới, một truyền thống làm tôi ấm lòng khi hồi tưởng lại từ những ngày thơ ấu lớn lên ở tiểu bang Hạ Uy Di
Đây cũng là cơ hội để chúng ta vinh danh tất cả những người Mỹ cũng ăn mừng dịp lễ Tết Âm Lịch này. Bất kỳ những người Mỹ gốc Á và Thái Bình Dương này đã có mặt trên đất Hoa Kỳ từ nhiều thế hệ hoặc mới nhập cư, họ đã có công đóng góp xây dựng và phát triển quốc gia và làm đất nước chúng ta trở thành ngọn đuốc sáng cho toàn thế giới. Lịch sử Hoa Kỳ như một bức thảm đủ màu sắc và sinh động qua các trải nghiệm của từng người nhập cư vào Hoa Kỳ được thêu dệt vào kinh nghiệm chung của mọi người . Điều này giúp chúng ta ý thức rằng sức mạnh của quốc gia là do mọi người có cơ hội cùng đóng góp và được mời gọi hội nhập vào một cộng đồng chung. Chính vì vậy, Quốc Hội cần cải thiện chính sách di trú và nhập cư, mà hiện tại không hữu hiệu. Do đó trong thời gian này, chúng tôi sẽ làm những gì chúng tôi làm được để giúp các gia đình, các công nhân viên, sinh viên, và doanh nhân vượt qua các khó khăn trong vấn để nhập cư. Chúng tôi sẽ tiếp tục tranh đấu để tạo cơ hội công bằng cho tất cả mọi người trong năm tới.
Năm Bính Thân là năm biểu tượng cho các giá trị chung như sự lãnh đạo, sự đổi mới, và sự tiến bộ.
