For Passengers Heading to Asia, Logan is Your Airport
Hainan Nonstop Flight to Shanghai Starts Today

(From Mass Port)BOSTON –Hainan Airlines and Massport officials celebrated the first nonstop arrival from Shanghai today at Logan International Airport. In March, Hainan announced Boston would become the airlines’ first U.S. city with service to Shanghai. The service is scheduled on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner three days a week - Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with afternoon times. The new flight complements the carrier’s existing nonstop Boston-Beijing service. With this new route, passengers at Logan can now reach three destinations in China as well as Tokyo, Japan and Istanbul, Turkey.

“Partnerships like this are terrific for Massachusetts,” said Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker. “By gaining new international flights, the Commonwealth is able to compete for more international business opportunities and travel options for our citizens, stimulating economic growth across the region.”

Boston is the largest U.S.-Shanghai air travel market without nonstop service, and Shanghai is Boston’s largest unserved international market, with more than 76,000 passengers travelling between the two cities last year. The total Boston-Shanghai air travel market has grown 48% since 2010, and is expected to grow more as a result of this nonstop service. Since May, Boston to Beijing service on Hainan Airlines has operated daily.

“One year ago, we were celebrating with Hainan their new nonstop Beijing service. And this year, we are thrilled to once again have something to celebrate – this time a new nonstop flight to Shanghai,’’ said Massport CEO Thomas P. Glynn. “I want to thank the business community and Massport’s Asia Task Force for their support in making Hainan’s Boston ventures here such a success.’’

Hainan Airlines just won the Skytrax 5-star airline quality award for the 5th year in a row. The flight time is approximately 15 hours westbound and 14 hours eastbound. Connections with Hainan’s airline partners, including JetBlue in its Boston hub, allow travelers to connect to and from the new service from points throughout the U.S. and Canada.

In Boston, as well as in Shanghai, with advance reservations, premium passengers are treated to complimentary private chauffeured car service both on arrival and departure. Shanghai’s Pudong Airport also features a Maglev train that speeds travel between the airport and the city.

On board Hainan’s airplanes, business class passengers can relax in luxurious seats that convert into a fully flat bed and feature a turn-down service complete with fluffy pillows, fine cotton sheets and a duvet, pajamas and slippers. Gourmet Chinese or Western cuisine and wines are served on fine china, glassware and linens; customers may choose when they wish to dine. Freshly brewed espresso and a selection of teas are available. Amenity kits feature famous Bulgari® cosmetics. A state of the art entertainment system offers over 100 movies, audio selections and games on demand.

MAYOR WALSH DISCUSSES IMMIGRATION REFORM AT U.S. CONFERENCE OF MAYORS

MAYOR WALSH DISCUSSES IMMIGRATION REFORM AT U.S. CONFERENCE OF MAYORS

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. - Monday, June 22, 2015 - Today at the 83rd Annual Conference of Mayors in San Francisco, Mayor Martin J. Walsh attended the Immigration Reform Task Force Meeting, at which he discussed the recommendations of the White House Task Force on New Americans, initiatives of the Department of Homeland Security and welcoming efforts underway in Boston. His remarks, as prepared for delivery, are attached to this email.

Earlier this month, Mayor Walsh joined U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director León Rodríguez to sign a letter of agreement to expand a partnership to strengthen citizenship education and awareness efforts. The agreement will remain in effect for three years. Research shows that immigrants who have naturalized have more employment opportunities and higher incomes, and experience lower levels of poverty than non-citizens.

In May 2015, Mayor Walsh, Boston-area immigrants and local business leaders and advocates discussed the economic and moral benefits of President Obama’s executive action on immigration, while calling on Congress to pass legislative reform without delay. The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) will help an estimated five million immigrants and children of immigrants stay in the United States, continue contributing to our economy and create American jobs.

In additional to being a strong supporter of President Obama’s Executive Order on Immigration, Mayor Walsh has hosted citizenship and naturalization clinics, among other efforts to help support immigrants in Boston.

Representative Ultrino Passes His First Bill for Malden

Representative Ultrino Passes His First Bill for Malden

BOSTON – Malden State Representative Steven Ultrino’s first bill as a freshman legislator was signed into law last week. H. 3194, “An Act Amending the Composition of the Stadium and Athletic Field Commission in the City of Malden,” was signed by Governor Baker and submitted to the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s office Thursday evening.

“It seems fitting that my first bill to be signed into law so directly helps Malden,” said Representative Ultrino. “It’s been great working with the rest of the Malden delegation to improve our city charter and prepare for our summer athletic season.”

This bill is the first home-rule petition sponsored by a new representative to be signed into law this year. The bill first passed the House in early April and the Senate earlier this month. It was introduced by Representative Ultrino and co-sponsored by all of Malden’s state legislative delegation, which includes Senator Jason Lewis, Representative Paul Donato, and Representative Paul Brodeur.

The bill changes the make-up of the board that oversees the stadium and athletic fields in Malden. While the original board was set out in 1946, it has been amended several times since then to reflect the changes in local and school governance. The new board includes the mayor or a designee, the high school principal, the high school athletic director, Malden’s recreation coordinator, and three residents. The previous board make-up made it difficult to schedule the use of the stadium and athletic fields for Malden sports programs.

“I’m very pleased that the Malden delegation was able to work together to get this local priority passed through the Legislature and signed into law, and I thank Representative Ultrino for his leadership steering this bill through the legislative process,” said Senator Jason Lewis.  “Modernizing the Stadium and Athletic Field Commission will make it more responsive and further strengthen Malden’s robust athletic and recreational programs.”

“I was happy to support Representative Ultrino’s bill which will facilitate the scheduling of athletic events in the city of Malden,” said Representative Paul Donato.

“I am pleased to see that Governor Baker has signed this bill into law just in time for summer,” said Representative Paul Brodeur. “My hope is that this law will make it easier for Malden to enjoy athletics going forward.”

MAYOR WALSH ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR SUMMER JOBS

MAYOR WALSH ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR SUMMER JOBS

BOSTON— Monday, June 22, 2015 - Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced an additional $270,000 in funding to create 200 additional jobs for youth this summer. The Mayor made the announcement while attending the 83rd U.S. Conference of Mayors in San Francisco, Calif.

"Summer jobs provide more than just a source of income for our young people," said Mayor Walsh. "These jobs provide valuable work experience, mentorship opportunities, self- confidence and most importantly, an opportunity to see a new and better future. I thank our partners on the City Council for their continued support. "

“I want to commend the administration and my colleagues on the City Council for their tireless advocacy for summer opportunities for youth across the city," said City Council Ways and Means Committee Chairman Mark Ciommo.

Mayor Walsh has made youth summer employment a priority, challenging businesses to partner with the City to increase employment opportunities for Boston's young people. Under his leadership, Boston currently places more than 10,000 young people annually in meaningful summer jobs.

For more than 20 years, the Boston Youth Fund, and now the Department of Youth Engagement and Employment (DYEE), has provided employment opportunities for Boston youth in a vast array of positions at non-profit organizations throughout the city. Many of the young people employed are instrumental in assisting non-profit organizations with outreach efforts, childcare, educational awareness and more.

With this new support, the City’s overall commitment to DYEE youth jobs will grow by nearly 22 percent in fiscal year 2016. The Walsh Administration expects to be able to absorb the additional costs through continued strict expenditure management throughout the fiscal year.

Earlier this month, Mayor Walsh kicked off the eighth year of John Hancock's MLK Summer Jobs Program, a major partner of the Mayor's Summer Jobs Program and component of the City’s efforts to employ Boston youth. John Hancock’s MLK Summer Jobs Program employs more than 600 Boston teens annually. In conjunction with the Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program, John Hancock works in close partnership with
The Boston Globe, Boston University and Partners HealthCare to offer the unique MLK Summer Scholars program.

Summer jobs have been key to combating youth violence as well, alongside other major initiatives launched by the Mayor. This month, Mayor Walsh announced a public/private partnership led by the Mayor’s Public Safety Initiative with John Hancock and Boys & Girls Club of Boston's Youth Connect program that is aimed at stemming youth violence by providing clinical case management and positive youth development opportunities for high-risk youth. The program, which will be funded by John Hancock, will serve approximately 50 at-risk males and females ranging from 11-14-years-old per year.

The focus of the program will be to reduce risky behaviors to increase positive decision-making skills, while creating opportunities to increase self-awareness and confidence through the acquisition of leadership and work-readiness skills.

Mayor Walsh is also calling on more private sector companies to hire and support youth employment. For companies interested in participating in the Mayor's Summer Jobs Program, please contact

Vaxon Biotech granted Japanese patent for new cancer vaccine candidates

Vaxon Biotech granted Japanese patent for new cancer vaccine candidates

The company’s worldwide cancer vaccines patent portfolio, made up of ten patent families, now comprises 24 issued patents

Paris, France, June 22, 2015 -
Vaxon Biotech, a company specialized in anti-tumor immunotherapy, today announces that it has been granted a new patent in Japan. This patent (JP application n°2012-502822) covers a series of optimized cryptic peptides to be used in the design of the Vbx-026, a new cancer vaccine for solid tumors.

This patent gives
Vaxon exclusive rights in Japan and raises its worldwide portfolio to 24 issued patents.

The patent will support the development of Vbx-026, a vaccine dedicated to the treatment of cancer patients expressing the HLA-A24 molecule. This molecule is widely expressed in the Asian population, mainly in Japan, with more than 40% of the Japanese population expressing HLA-A24. The initiation of preclinical development of the Vbx-026 vaccine is planned for 2016.

“This new patent will strengthen our position in Japan, a promising market for the development of the Vbx-026 vaccine,” said Dr. Kostas Kosmatopoulos, CEO of
VaxonBiotech. “With four cancer vaccines under development, ranging from lead optimization to phase II, we have built a strong patent portfolio and we now cover the three major HLA molecules, corresponding to around 80% of cancer patients.”

Vaxon Biotech develops therapeutic vaccines against cancer, based on its proprietary technology of optimized cryptic peptides, which are protected by ten patent families. All vaccines developed by Vaxon target universal tumor antigens and therefore have wide-ranging applications in cancer treatment.

Vx-001 and Vx-006 are already in clinical trials (Vx-001 in an ongoing randomized phase II trial in eight European countries and Vx-006 in an ongoing phase I trial). Vbx-016 has successfully completed its preclinical development and is ready to enter clinical trials and Vbx-026 is at the final stage of lead optimization.

Vx-001 and Vx-006 can be used for the treatment of patients expressing HLA-A2, the most common HLA molecule in humans (40-45% of the world population). Vx-001 and Vx-006 are fully protected by a total of 17 patents granted in Europe, the US, Canada,
China and Japan. These patents belong to four patent families and cover peptide optimization technology, the products derived from this technology and their use. Six of these patents belong to INSERM/IGR and have been licensed to
Vaxon Biotech, while the remaining 11 are Vaxon’sown property.

Vbx-016 can be used for the treatment of patients expressing HLA-B7, a common HLA molecule (25% of the population). Vbx-016 is already protected by three patent families. Five patents are already granted in Europe, the US, China and South Korea. Additional patents are still under review. All these patents are
Vaxon’s own property.

The global market for cancer vaccines is expected to grow to $4.3 billion (€3.8 billion) by 2019, with a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.3%. Technological advancements, new
product launches and unmet treatment needs are predicted to drive consistent growth in this market for the foreseeable future.

AG HEALEY FILES FINAL REGULATIONS IN SUPPORT OF LAW PROVIDING ONE MILLION MORE EMPLOYEES ACCESS PAID SICK LEAVE

AG HEALEY FILES FINAL REGULATIONS IN SUPPORT OF LAW PROVIDING ONE MILLION MORE EMPLOYEES ACCESS PAID SICK LEAVE
Final Regulations for Earned Sick Time Law Now Available on AGO Website; Education and Outreach Effort to Continue into the Fall
BOSTON — After soliciting extensive public input and working closely with businesses and workers, Attorney General Maura Healey today published final regulations to implement the new Earned Sick Time law, a law providing one million more workers in the state with access to sick leave for the first time.
The Earned Sick Time law was passed by voters on the November ballot and goes into effect on July 1. The final regulations, along with the law and other guidance materials are now available on the Office’s website
“Nearly one million of our most vulnerable, lowest paid workers, will no longer need to worry about whether they can afford to take a day off if they are sick or to care for a loved one,” AG Healey said. “Hundreds of employers and workers contributed to our effort to write balanced, clear, and workable rules. We are committed to partnering with businesses and employees to help them understand their rights and responsibilities and ensure that the law is successfully implemented statewide.”
The final regulations are informed by the feedback provided by employers and workers during 11 public hearings and listening sessions around the state. More than 1,100 people attended these meetings. During the public comment period, the AG’s Office received over 75 formal comments and responded to hundreds of emailed questions regarding the new law.
The Office’s final regulations include clarifications and adjustments to provisions regarding the accrual, use and payment of Earned Sick Time, employer size, notice requirements, and rules for requiring medical documentation. The final regulations also include clarifications on when employees can make up time instead of using it and how employers with existing leave policies can keep their own plans while complying with the law.
Even before the final regulations were filed, AG Healey announced a Safe Harbor provision, which grants employers who already offer paid time off policies to their employees until January 1, 2016 to come into full compliance with the new law.
The Community Engagement Division of the AG’s Office will be holding outreach events and information sessions for employers across different sectors and for the public and employers on the new law into the fall. A more detailed list of the upcoming outreach events will be made available in the coming days and posted on the AG’s website.
Nearly, one in three workers in Massachusetts do not currently have access to sick leave or any paid time off, the vast majority of whom work in low-wage jobs. More than half of service industry workers do not have access to a single sick day.
Massachusetts will be joining California and Connecticut as the only states with an earned sick time law.
Earned sick time can be used for routine or emergency medical visits and travel time, to care for an ill family member or to address issues of domestic violence.
