MassCEC Expands No-Cost Service to Help More Residents Reduce Energy Costs and Modernize Their Homes

MassCEC Expands No-Cost Service to Help More Residents Reduce Energy Costs and Modernize Their Homes

The Home Modernization Navigator expands to Chelsea, Lynn, Framingham, and Taunton, broadening access to clean energy upgrades and savings for households

BOSTON – The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) today announced the expansion of the Home Modernization Navigator pilot program, a no-cost service that helps residents improve their homes and lower their energy bills. This initiative provides personalized support for energy upgrades, electrification, and efficiency improvements. Following the success of the program’s first phase in Springfield and Lowell, the second phase will now expand to three new communities—Chelsea, Framingham, and Lynn. Additionally, the Home Modernization Navigator will expand into Taunton in January.

“The Home Modernization Navigator pilot program is helping break down barriers that keep too many families from making badly needed upgrades to their homes, saving them money,” said Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rebecca Tepper. “As we grow into more communities, we’re ensuring that more people can access savings and the best heating and cooling technology.”

“MassCEC is committed to helping every Massachusetts resident modernize their home in ways that are good for their wallet and their health,” said MassCEC Interim CEO Dr. Jennifer Le Blond. “The Home Modernization Navigator simplifies what can be a complex process—offering one-on-one support so residents can confidently take the next step toward efficient, electrified, and affordable homes.”

The program provides one-on-one guidance via phone, video calls, and community office hours to help residents identify their goals, access available incentives and financing, and provide technical guidance on the following:

  • Appliances and Yard Equipment
  • Clean Electricity
  • Electrical Upgrades
  • Energy Bill Savings
  • Heating and Cooling
  • Transportation
  • Weatherization

The Home Modernization Navigator pilot program prioritizes engagement with renters, rental property owners, low-income households, and residents who speak languages other than English—addressing persistent gaps in participation in clean energy programs and ensuring equitable access to savings and comfort. This one-stop resource empowers residents to take steps toward reducing energy costs and exploring more sustainable living.

Healey-Driscoll Administration Awards Funding to 160 Organizations to Improve Workplace Safety; Launches SafetyWorks Initiative

Funding will train workers as a proactive measure to help employers improve workplace safety; SafetyWorks Initiative creates one-stop menu for expert guidance and resources to prevent workplace injuries

BOSTON – The Healey-Driscoll Administration today launched the SafetyWorks Initiative, including grant funding and free technical consultation for employers to improve safety in the workplace. As part of SafetyWorks, the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) announced $800,000 in grants to train an estimated 13,832 workers at 160 organizations across Massachusetts. The grants, administered by the Department of Industrial Accidents (DIA), aim to enhance workplace safety through training, education, and other preventative measures. SafetyWorks also features free technical consultation offered by the Department of Labor Standards for public and private sector employers.

The 160 grant recipients include municipalities, minority- and women-owned businesses, veterans-owned businesses, small business, and employers across industries such as manufacturing, construction, and more. This funding is made available through DIA annually. Since 1988, DIA has funded approximately $24 million to Massachusetts-based employers, helping approximately 324,000 workers and 1,693 employers throughout Massachusetts.

“Well-trained workers are the foundation to safe workplaces,” said Governor Maura Healey. “These grants are an example of our administration’s commitment to helping businesses educate thousands of workers in promoting safe work conditions.”

“Workplace Safety Grants provide a great resource for employers, especially our small businesses and municipalities,” said Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll. “I want to congratulate each awardee for stepping up to improve conditions for their workers and workforce.”

In addition to this funding announcement and to further support employers, EOLWD is launching the SafetyWorks Initiative, a one-stop menu featuring free technical consultation and state occupational and industrial safety resources to make it easier for businesses to access guidance, training, and tools to strengthen workplace safety. Public- and private-sector employers interested in these resources can visit mass.gov/SafetyWorks to schedule a confidential consultation. Now a one-stop menu, employers can also visit SafetyWorks to apply for training grants of up to $25,000 through the Department of Industrial Accidents, as funding allows.

“The Healey-Driscoll Administration wants to ensure employers, large and small, have access to resources that support workplace safety and the launch of SafetyWorks aims to make it easier for employers to do so,” said Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development Lauren Jones. “As we strive to keep workers safe, these grants and consultation services help deliver training, drive productivity, and prioritize the well-being of Massachusetts workers in the workplace.”

These training grants help employers stay ahead of risks by equipping their teams with the skills to recognize hazards and prevent injuries”, said Maryann FalveyDirector of the DIA Office of Safety. “Congratulations to all the organizations receiving training grants and thank you for investing in the safety and well-being of your workforce.”

“When workers feel safe, businesses see improvements in workplace culture and productivity,” said Michael FlanaganDirector of the Department of Labor Standards. “Whether you’re facing specific challenges or simply want peace of mind, our consultants are ready to support you.”

Healey-Driscoll Administration Awards $7 Million in Inaugural Live Theater Tax Credits to 28 Productions Statewide

Massachusetts launches program to grow the live theater industry and strengthen the creative economy

BOSTON – The Healey-Driscoll Administration today announced 28 inaugural awards totaling $7 million through the state’s newly established Live Theater Tax Credit Program, a groundbreaking initiative designed to expand Massachusetts’ live performance sector, support local venues, and boost the state’s visitor economy.

The Live Theater Tax Credit is one of several initiatives launched under the Mass Leads Act, the Healey-Driscoll Administration’s comprehensive economic development strategy to grow jobs, foster innovation, and strengthen communities across the state. the Live Theater Tax Credit provides financial incentives to professional theater companies that develop, produce, and/or present live stage performances in Massachusetts.

“Live theater is a catalyst for creativity and community,” said Governor Maura Healey. “It fuels our downtowns, inspires our residents, and draws visitors from around the world. By investing in the people and places that bring stories to life, this new tax credit program positions Massachusetts as a national leader in live performance, a state where imagination drives opportunity and culture powers our economy.”

“From the Berkshires to Boston, this program helps our stages shine,” said Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll. “By incentivizing live productions, we’re helping our local venues attract national-caliber performances, extend visitor stays, and strengthen year-round tourism in every region of the state.”

Administered by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism (MOTT) in partnership with the Massachusetts Office of Business Development (MOBD) and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR), the program encourages both local and national producers to stage new works and pre-Broadway runs in the state, making Massachusetts a national destination for live theater.

“Massachusetts competes on talent, creativity, and quality of life,” said Economic Development Secretary Eric Paley. “Through the Mass Leads Act and initiatives like the Live Theater Tax Credit, we’re expanding the tools that drive growth across our innovation and creative sectors. This program helps attract new productions, support local businesses, and generate powerful ripple effects in communities statewide. It’s smart economic development that strengthens our competitive edge and ensures Massachusetts continues to lead on a national stage.”

The Live Theater Tax Credit allows eligible theater companies to receive non-refundable credits equal to 35 percent of qualifying payroll costs, 25 percent of production and performance expenditures, and 25 percent of transportation expenditures. Credits may be carried forward for up to five years and are transferable.

Applications for the FY26 pilot program opened July 15, 2025, and closed August 26, 2025. The 28 initial awardees represent a diverse mix of regional professional theaters, national tour launches, and pre-Broadway and pre-Off-Broadway productions performing at qualified Massachusetts venues.

“Live theater is both an art form and an industry, and Massachusetts is ready to lead in both,” said Kate Fox, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism. “By supporting productions that launch and grow here, we’re building a stronger ecosystem for the arts, creating jobs, attracting visitors, and celebrating the stories that connect our communities across the state.”

“This program helps Massachusetts stand shoulder-to-shoulder with other major theater destinations across the country,” said Assistant Secretary of Business Growth at the Massachusetts Office of Business Development Naomi Berlin. “By attracting new productions and supporting local theater companies, we’re fostering an ecosystem where creativity, business growth, and community connection all thrive together.”

Erin Murphy
