(Boston Orange

            婦女部成員們這晚先安排男女合唱“歡樂年年”,“大中國”這兩首歌,再由婦女部換上喜氣洋洋大紅衣裳,排出舞陣的扭腰轉身跳“恭喜發財”舞,還在舞曲結束時排出隊形,拉出“恭喜發財,身體健康”對聯,向出席者拜年,顯然經過一番策劃。

            大波士頓僑團春宴,往年多半安排小朋友,青少年表演舞蹈。台山同鄉聯誼會今年別出心裁,身體力行證明,穿上繽紛舞衣表演,不是年輕人的專利。他們在一曲“恭喜發財”後,換了一套衣服,還再跳了一曲“放歌大草原”。跳完到後台,請林勁為他們拍幅美美的照片,留下難得如此打扮的倩影。
            當晚的表演節目還有鄺秀蘭,周敏演唱賀年小曲,李佩瓊示範太極廿四式,李志鵬,瑞娟跳“藍色探戈”,李月蓮跳拉丁舞。

            現年已七十七歲的台山鄉親聯誼會會長李照桃坦言,該會主要成員是耆英,年事漸長。包括趙英才已九十六歲,陳毓璇,劉惠龍都已年逾八十,培養年輕人出來為鄉親服務,是該會目前的目標之一。當年的副會長許柏照就已把為鄉親服務的棒子,交給了女兒許惠儀。他們希望有心為社區服務的年輕人,能抽空多到帝苑大酒樓旁的黃官羨閱報室,以及該會會址走動,加強聯誼。

Members of the 2013 Champions to Receive World Series Rings;
Dropkick Murphys and Members of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra
To Participate in the Festivities;
Fans are encouraged to use Public Transportation

BOSTON, MA – The Red Sox open their 114th home season this Friday, April 4, with Opening Day festivities set to begin at 1 p.m.  The Red Sox play the National League’s Milwaukee Brewers at 2:05 p.m.

The pre-game ceremonies will include the presentation of the World Series rings, presented by Samsung, the performance of the national anthem, a helicopter fly-over, the Ceremonial First Pitch, and the call to “Play Ball.”

The ceremonies will include a moment of silence in tribute to Lieutenant Edward J. Walsh and Firefighter Michael R. Kennedy, who perished last week when a 9-alarm fire raged through a Back Bay home a mile and a half from Fenway Park.  The firefighters were from the station on Boylston Street that also protects the ballpark.

The singing of God Bless America in the middle of the 7th inning will be performed by the Boston Fire Department Quartet.

The Dropkick Murphys, along with Keith Lockhart conducting members of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, will perform during the ceremonies. Members of the Hanscom Airforce Base military will line the length of the Green Monster wall as the American flag drops for the anthem.

To maintain the Opening Day tradition of a fly-over at Fenway Park, the United States Coast Guard will fly a single MH-60T helicopter, representing all of our armed forces, at the conclusion of the national anthem.

In honor of the 2013 championship, players will wear special gold-trimmed Red Sox jerseys with gold stitching around the World Series Championship patch on the left sleeve, and around the letters and numbers on the front and back of the jersey.

Fenway Park gates will open at 11:35 a.m., 2 ½ hours before the first pitch.  For the rest of the regular season, gates will open 1 ½ hours before the game, except for Season Ticket Holders and Red Sox Nation members, who may enter at Gate C 2 ½ hours before each game.

As always, and especially on midweek day games, the Red Sox urge fans to take the T.  In addition to the familiar Green Line stops at Kenmore Square, the MBTA has also built a new Yawkey station for its Commuter Rail service.

The refurbished station, located just 511 feet from the doorstep of Fenway Park, now has as many as 40 scheduled stops per day, up from only 17 flag stops previously.  Yawkey Station is part of the Commuter Rail’s Framingham/Worcester line, which runs from Worcester to South Station. The last outbound train from Yawkey Station departs at 11:36 p.m. on weekdays and 11:10 p.m. on weekends. Departure times for the last train leaving Yawkey Station are subject to change based on the length of the game.

HISTORIC $5.15 BILLION SETTLEMENT REACHED OVER ENVIRONMENTAL CLEAN-UP CLAIMS

HISTORIC $5.15 BILLION SETTLEMENT REACHED OVER ENVIRONMENTAL CLEAN-UP CLAIMS
Massachusetts to Receive More Than $73 Million for Environmental Contamination at “National Fireworks Site” in Hanover

BOSTON – Considered the largest national environmental bankruptcy settlement in history, Attorney General Martha Coakley today announced a $5.15 billion settlement Anadarko Petroleum Corp and its affiliate Kerr-McGee filed today in the Southern District of New York.  The case resolves environmental cleanup claims stemming from the 2009 bankruptcy of a former affiliate, Tronox.

As a result of the settlement, Massachusetts will receive more than $73 million for a severely contaminated site in Hanover, known as the “National Fireworks Site,” that is being cleaned up under the state’s Superfund Law.

“This is a historic settlement that will greatly benefit the environment in Massachusetts by ensuring that funds are available to clean-up the dangerous, decades-old mercury contamination at the National Fireworks Site,” said AG Coakley. “This makes clear that companies cannot escape their environmental responsibilities and walk away with the profits. We applaud the efforts of the Litigation Trust and United States team in preventing the fraudulent transactions of Kerr-McGee and its parent company, Anadarko, from allowing them to escape their liability.”

The site in Hanover, known as the "Fireworks Site," is a nearly 300-acre former munitions manufacturing, testing and disposal facility. As a result of the munitions operations that occurred there over many decades, starting during World War I, soils, sediments, and water bodies in the vicinity are contaminated with high levels of mercury, lead and other heavy metals that have contaminated the fish and other natural resources, including in the adjacent Factory Pond and Indian Head River, which is a tributary of the North River.
In January 2009, Tronox filed its Chapter 11 petition in the Southern District of New York Bankruptcy Court; and, shortly thereafter, brought a lawsuit against its parent company, Anadarko. That suit alleges Anadarko's Kerr-McGee unit’s earlier spin-off of Tronox was unlawful because it vested that entity with hundreds of millions of dollars in environmental liability and insufficient assets. Under the terms of a November 2010 multi-state and Federal environmental bankruptcy settlement, Tronox transferred its right to proceeds from the fraudulent conveyance lawsuit against Anadarko to the governmental entities to which it has environmental liability.
At the time of the 2010 settlement, Tronox paid $270 million, nearly $950,000 of which came to Massachusetts, to resolve environmental liabilities. Today’s settlement is in addition to what the governments already received in 2010.

This case was handled by Assistant Attorney General Carol Iancu of Attorney General Coakley's Environmental Protection Division with the assistance of Jennifer Davis, Senior Counsel, and Karen Pelto of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.

BOSTON, MA – The Red Sox today introduced a $9 standing room ticket for high school and college students for home games at Fenway Park during the 2014 season, making it the lowest priced ticket at the ballpark. The club also announced $20 seats for students during six specially-themed Super Student Nights taking place in April and May.

It's essential to the future of our game.”

In addition to offering $9 standing room tickets to high school and college students for every home game this season, the Red Sox will offer all students the opportunity to purchase $20 seats for 6 specially-themed Super Student Nights in April and May.

Presentation & Book Signing!

The First Chinese American
The Remarkable Life of Wong Chin Foo
with author
Scott D. Seligman

Thursday, April 3th @6:30pm
Kwong Kow Chinese School Auditorium
87 Tyler Street, Boston Chinatown

"Wong Chin Foo was the earliest, most visible Chinese public advocate speaking and writing in English for the rights of Chinese in the U.S. Scott Seligman has rescued his life story in a thoroughly enjoyable narrative that adds significantly to our knowledge of the late 19th and early 20th century history of the Chinese in North America." — John Kuo Wei Tchen, New York University

Wong Chin Foo (1847-1898) was a leader and a fighter, advocating for the rights of Chinese in American in the 19th Century. Chinese in American endured abuse and discrimination, but Wong Chin Foo’s story is a forgotten chapter in the struggle for equal rights in America. The first to coin the term “Chinese America,” Wong fought for his compatriots and urged them to become Americanized to win their rights, he founded America’s first association of Chinese voters and testified before Congress against anti-Chinese laws.

Author Scott D. Seligman will be on hand to provide an account of the life and times of one of America’s earliest proponents of racial equality.

Books will be available for signing following the presentation, and proceeds will benefit CHSNE.
