Mayor Walsh to Appoint Jascha Franklin-Hodge as Chief Information Officer

BOSTON—Today, Mayor Martin J. Walsh announced that Jascha Franklin-Hodge will serve as the City’s new Chief Information Officer. Franklin-Hodge will lead the City’s efforts to enhance online service delivery, empower City employees with effective digital tools, and improve access to technology and the Internet for all Boston neighborhoods. 

Franklin-Hodge brings more than 15 years of information technology experience in the corporate, nonprofit, and political sectors to his new role overseeing the Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT).

Franklin-Hodge will begin his service to the City of Boston on July 28, replacing current Interim Chief Information Officer Justin Holmes. Holmes has served the City of Boston for nearly five years. He will work with Franklin-Hodge to ensure a smooth leadership transition over the next month.

“Jascha Franklin-Hodge will be a vital addition to our City’s leadership team, following the exceptional work of Justin Holmes,” said Mayor Walsh. “Jascha has directed large, high-profile technology operations, and I know he comes well-equipped to help Boston continue its leadership as a world-class tech city.” 

“We can use technology to make it easier for Bostonians to do business with the City and to empower city employees to provide great service,” said Franklin-Hodge. “Access to the internet and technical skills can enhance educational and economic opportunity, and Mayor Walsh and I share a vision for a more connected Boston.”

Franklin-Hodge co-founded Blue State Digital (BSD) in 2004 and currently runs BSD’s Boston technology office. He oversaw the development and operation of the BSD Tools, an online fundraising, email, and CRM platform that powered the digital presence of President Barack Obama’s 2008 and 2012 campaigns. The platform has processed $1.6B in online donations and delivered more than 24 billion emails on behalf of over 500 clients. Current and past clients include: One Fund Boston; the Democratic National Committee; Partners in Health; Google; the NAACP, SEIU; the current presidents of France, Brazil, and Mexico; Senators Kennedy, Kerry, Markey, Warren; and the campaigns of more than 50 other members of Congress.

Prior to founding Blue State Digital, Franklin-Hodge worked on Howard Dean's groundbreaking 2004 presidential campaign, where he led the technology team responsible for scaling, securing, and maintaining a high visibility, high traffic website that received praise from both the political and tech communities for its usability, reliability, and depth of functionality.

Since 2009, Franklin-Hodge has served as an advisor to Code for America, a nonprofit which connects technologists with cities to help government solve civic challenges and encourages innovation in government technology.

Previously, Franklin-Hodge was the director of software development for AOL's Digital Music Division, and has worked for the Art Technology Group and Software Tool and Die, and has consulted for the Computer Museum, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University.

Franklin-Hodge studied computer science at MIT and lives in South Boston.

Slyde, their Mascot, will join the the Rev Girls in spreading enthusiasm throughout the audience.

紐英崙中華公所原本有網站。因網站上張貼的早年會議記錄夾有個人評論，引發爭議，與該評論有關的當事人還聘請律師，向法院提告。中華公所經董事會議討論，今年初撤下了該網站。負責製作網站與更新網站內容的中華公所現任中文，英文秘書，在相關的中華公所董事會議中說明，當初張貼會議記錄時，只顧著儘量把所有的會議記錄都放到網站上，並未細看，審閱內容。其後明白表示，一旦撤下網站，將不再涉入網站製作，更新事務。

            紐英崙中華公所主席阮鴻燦因麻州總檢察官辦公室，坊間大眾，甚至公所董事都發出中華公所應設網站的聲音，最近覓得人選，重新架設出中華公所網站。目前網站內容還不多，有八個分項，包括主頁，活動，宗旨聲明，消息，項目，聯絡，鏈接，以及關於我們等。

中秋節聯歡會 波士頓8/10 昆士市8/17

(Boston Orange）儘管時序還未踏進七月，紐英崙中華公所和昆市亞協服務中心近日分別宣佈，今年的中秋節聯歡會依序將於八月十日，八月十七日舉行，籲請有意擺攤，贊助者，及早行動。

            紐英崙中華公所在新建的公所網站（http://ccba-ne.net）活動頁，張貼聲明，今年的華埠中秋節聯歡會，將由紐英崙中華公所主辦，並無其他協辦機構，訂八月十日早上十點至下午六點舉行。

            中華公所籲有意在中秋節聯歡會擺攤者，及早洽購攤位，明白刊列在網站上的攤位價格為一枱兩椅的非食品攤位$120，食品攤位$220，非營利機構攤位$100。

            昆市亞協服務中心（QARI）行政主任約翰波德（John Brother）昨（廿四）日發出電子郵件，提醒社區，昆士市今年的中秋節聯歡會已擇定在八月十七日的早上十一點至下午五點在昆市中心舉行。擺攤費用為225元，加一張桌子加一百元，或加購節目冊廣告者，可享有25元優惠。

美中藥協第十六屆年會談創新、全球合作

美中醫藥開發協會紐英崙分會（SAPA-NE）上週末在麻省理工學院史隆管理學院舉辦第十六屆年會，探討生物醫藥界該如何以“開放創新，全球合作”，改善生產力與效益。

會中宣佈執行副會長梁桂清將在趙南丁卸任後接會長一職，頒發每人八百元獎學金，表揚將進入生物醫藥領域深造，依序升讀哈佛大學的朱夢雅，張媛思，康乃爾大學的孫依格，布朗大學的毛颺等四人，還頒發優異服務獎表揚該會的龍江，蔡凌希，孫霄天，周文來，胡琦穎，鮑幸峰，陳晨等幹部。

當晚，曼哈頓資本管理咨詢公司執行長王進，分享了他從生物醫藥轉行做投資咨詢的過程。該公司2004年在杭州的投資，促使學生創辦的“丁香園”，搖身變成醫學、藥學，生命科學專業網站，內容十分多元，廣受稱讚。

王進表示，他原本是屋斯特理工學院（WPI）的生物博士，曾進入羅氏製藥（Roche)工作五年，後來轉進一家小公司做證照許可（licensing），再進派拉蒙資本公司，為該公司做了引進砒霜，蟾蜍粉發展治癌藥物的項目，後來才和另外兩名夥伴合作，自己成立公司，投資孤兒藥（orphan drug）研發。

            美中藥協現任會長趙南丁表示，自從1980年代發現阿斯匹林（Aspirin），篩檢天然產品和藥用化學成為藥物發現主流後，廿五年來，製藥研發界在找到有潛力或獲得批准的藥物上，成績都不如人意。十年前的找出了完整人體基因藍圖，也沒有增加藥物研發的效率，“開放創新”於焉成為製藥研發界近年的重要策略。

            美中藥協這場年會，共分四個單元，包括“大製藥公司的開放創新”，“中國製藥 公司及合作研究組織（CRO）的全球角色“，”政府及公家機關在鼓吹開放創新上的角色“，”我如何看開放創新，我們在全球合作上採行的做法“等。   

諾華帝（Novartis）項目辦公室全球主管Ann Taylor博士，1986年得到化學諾貝爾獎的哈佛大學榮譽教授Dudley Herschbach，健贊(Genzyme-Sanofi)的全球企業營運副總裁Mark Barrett，夏爾（Shire)的程序發展副總裁Joanne Beck等人在“大製藥公司的開放創新”單元，分享了各公司在開放創新上的做法。

和記黃埔醫藥商務開發和戰略合作資深副總裁王清梅，藥明康德企業聯盟副總裁才慧（譯音，Hui Cai），皇冠生物科學（Crown BioSciences）企業發展執行主任唐偉敏等人在“中國製藥 公司及合作研究組織（CRO）的全球角色“單元中，分享各公司策略，以及他們個人的工作經驗。

其中獲有普渡大學博士學位，曾在全球最大企業之一的禮來（Eli Lilly）製藥工作十六年，擔任亞洲生物研發主管的王清梅，加入和記黃埔後完成三項任務，包括和AstraZeneca共同發展治癌藥物Volitinib，獲得年度聯盟獎；和Nestle達成合資協議，為全球市場合作研發創新植物藥；和禮來合作共同研發治癌藥物Fruquintinib等。熟悉生物醫藥界者表示，王清梅達成的這幾項任務對中國製藥研發的國際化，幫助極大。

麻州生命科學中心傳播行銷副總裁Angus McQuilken，北京天成生物技術公司總裁孫樂，在”政府及公家機關在鼓吹開放創新上的角色“單元中，分別闡述麻州與北京概況。

波士頓台灣同鄉聯誼會辦心理講座防隨機殺人

波士頓台灣同鄉聯誼會廿一日下午，在位於牛頓市的波士頓華僑文教中心舉辦講座，討論心理問題，期盼更多人關注親子關係，培養子女健全人格，避免發生社會群殺事件。

        波士頓台灣同鄉聯誼會會長林展輝表示，今年五月下旬，台灣，美國先後發生群殺事件，許多人大受驚嚇，大家都問這社會是不是病了。該會因此籌辦講座，從加拿大請來心理醫師李昶做分析，並探討可能的防範方法。

            最近的這兩宗群殺事件，先是五月廿一日，台灣的廿一歲學生鄭捷在臺北捷運板南線上，持刀隨機殺人，造成四死廿四傷慘狀。接著五月廿三日，美國加州聖塔芭芭拉大學的廿二歲學生Elliot Rodger，在租住處刺死室友及來訪者共三人，再到校園附近槍殺至少三人。

            李昶指出，會做出這類事的人，多半心理變態，性格衝動，有反社會人格，法律或道德對他們完全不具約束力。而造成這種心理或人格的原因，常是因為他們從兒童成長到青少年期間，親子關係不好，師友關係不佳，或者受過刺激，又沒有抒發情緒管道，以致情感創傷留下心理疤痕，也影響了日後行為。

        李昶坦言，這些人平日行動時，不見得有特別徵兆，一般大眾幾乎不可能預做防範，頂多是提高警覺，注意朋友或身邊的人，是否舉止，言行異常。若是見到陌生人行為可疑，最好避開些。

            李昶表示，要避免社會中的群殺事件，從長遠來說，是要從小就培養良好親子關係，尤其是在小孩子二歲到六歲，正處於心理，人格逐漸成型階段，更加要凡事正面鼓勵，避免冷漠以待，更不要任意批評，才容易藉著關愛，幫助子女建立正確人生觀，自信心，養成樂觀態度，成長為一個有愛心，善於應對事物，解決問題的人。

        當天的出席者，提問踴躍，有許多人感嘆表示，要是自己早廿年就聽到這講座，養育子女時肯定會採取不同態度與做法。部分人士笑說，聞道未晚，可以在教育孫子女時用上正確態度，也算是為未來社會聊盡一分心意。

HK's Best Films Coming to New York Once again, HKETO-NY will partner with Subway Cinema and The Film Society of Lincoln Center as we present a large and varied selection of distinguished Hong Kong films under the title "Hong Kong Forever!" at the 2014 New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), from June 27 to July 14.  A total of 15 Hong Kong films will be screened, including nine premiere showings. Hong Kong's crime thriller "Overheard 3" will have its international premiere as the opening film on June 27 with the film's directors Alan Mak and Felix Chong in attendance. Actress Sandra Ng, dubbed HK's Queen of Comedy, will attend the ceremony in Lincoln Centre on June 27 to receive NYAFF's "Star Asia Award". A retrospective of Shaw Brothers' studio films will also be screened during the festival to pay tribute to the legendary movie mogul Sir Run Run Shaw. The tribute includes seven films released between 1967-1983, such as The One-Armed Swordsman; The Chinese Boxer and The Delinquent. "1600 Pandas" in HK to Promote Environmental Awareness "1600 Pandas," an exhibition by French sculptor Paulo Grangeon, has landed in HK as part of its world tour on behalf of the World Wildlife Federations efforts to environmentalism.   The title refers to the literal number of pandas, made of paper mache, that forms the show and which represents the actual number of pandas that remain in the wild.  Right now, the 1600 pandas are scattered around the city and can be found "residing" at such landmarks as the Clock Tower in Tsim Sha Tsui, the Hong Kong International Airport and the Victoria Park, among others. Then, between June 25-July 17, all 1600 pandas will be found at the "PMQ", our latest location for creative endeavors and artists in the Central district, where they will be part of a number of schemes to raise awareness for conservation and sustainable development in our city. 紐英崙中華總會七月四日辦美國國慶晚宴

紐英崙中華總會將於七月四日（週五）晚六點半，在帝苑大酒樓（690 Washington St., Boston, MA 02111）舉辦慶祝美國國慶餐會，並表揚黃君裕，黃傳禎等十名退伍軍人，藉以在紀念二次世界大戰登陸諾曼地七十週年之際，強調華裔曾為美國做出許多貢獻。 主辦單位當晚也將邀請多名競選公職的候選人出席，鼓勵華人參與投票，發揮在美國政界的影響力。
