麻州府撥款280萬元協助公司培訓人力



PATRICK ADMINISTRATION CONTINUES TO SUPPORT WORKFORCE TRAINING FOR MASSACHUSETTS COMPANIES

$2.8 million in matching grants complement private sector workforce training initiatives to benefit over 3,100 employees at 37 Massachusetts companies

BOSTON – Wednesday, October 9, 2013 – The Patrick Administration today announced $2.8 million in Workforce Training Fund General Program Grants, providing for the training of 3,106 current and newly hired employees at 37 companies across the Commonwealth. The grants, which are for up to two years, serve as a resource for businesses to increase the skill set of their incumbent employees and provide valuable training to the workers. As a result of these awarded grants, participating companies expect to create 263 new jobs by the end of 2015.

“By investing in workforce training, we are increasing opportunity and skills for workers while also making Massachusetts companies more competitive and sustainable,” said Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development Secretary Joanne F. Goldstein. “The Workforce Training Fund is an effective resource within the business community as we continue to encourage growth and development across all regions and economic sectors in Massachusetts.”

Wednesday’s announcement supports companies located in 30 cities and towns across the Commonwealth. Of the 33 awarded grants, one is a technical assistance grant, a type of planning grant awarded to companies preparing to implement workforce training grants and initiatives. Additionally, four grants were awarded to consortium projects involving multiple employers with common training needs.

This latest round of Workforce Training Fund grants build on the record investments in workforce training and education made by the Patrick Administration in recent years. Since 2007, the Administration has awarded $54.6 million for 722 grants to employers to train 66,211 workers within the manufacturing industry, alone. Today’s announced funding is the latest round of Workforce Training Fund Program grants that will further support manufacturers as well as initiatives to enhance skills for employees in other sectors including financial services, engineering and hospitality.

Mark Fichera, CEO of OnBrand24 of Beverly, a previous grant recipient said, “The support of the Workforce Training Fund has allowed OnBrand24 to provide valuable training that has taken our team to the next level. As a result of investment in our workforce, we were recently named to Inc. Magazine’s 5000 fastest growing companies.” Since being awarded a grant of $95,700 in 2011, OnBrand24 has grown from just 84 employees to over 200 employees.

“We encourage businesses, regardless of size, to contact us to learn more about the Workforce Training Fund and how this resource can help them to address their business needs,” said Nancy Snyder, President and CEO of EOLWD’s Commonwealth Corporation. "We are also interested in helping small businesses access the fund through consortiums that can be organized by third party workforce and training organizations.”
  
The following is a complete list of the awarded Workforce Training Fund General Program Grant Recipients (listed by city/town), totaling $2,807,458:

ANDOVER

Memsic, $23,040 awarded, 14 employees to be trained, and three new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

ASHLAND

On Process Technology, Inc., $167,330 awarded, 512 employees to be trained, and 40 new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

BILLERICA

Excell Solutions, Inc., $56,250 awarded, 32 employees to be trained, and six new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training. This is a consortium grant that also includes Palace Manufacturing of Billerica.

BOSTON

Boston Interactive, $75,316 awarded, 27 employees to be trained, and 12 new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

Children’s Services of Roxbury, $25,000 awarded for a technical assistance grant. This is a consortium grant that also includes Latino Health Institute of Boston.

Spire Printing, $52,800 awarded, 28 employees to be trained, and four new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

BOURNE

Onset Computer Corporation, $122,200 awarded, 123 employees to be trained, and five new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

CAMBRIDGE

LaVoie Group, $27,368 awarded, 10 employees to be trained, and two new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

CLINTON

Clinton Savings Bank, $59,330 awarded, 104 employees to be trained, and five new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

EAST LONGMEADOW

Cirtec Medical, $106,805 awarded, 63 employees to be trained, and three new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

FALL RIVER

Rex Cut Abrasives, $71,963 awarded and 54 employees to be trained.

FOXBORO

Dorel Juvenile Group, $162,260 awarded, 101 employees to be trained, and five new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

FRANKLIN

Newport Spectra-Physics, $65,000 awarded, 39 employees to be trained, and two new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

HAVERHILL

Whittier Health Network, $122,400 awarded and 108 employees to be trained.

LAWRENCE

Abel Womack, Inc, $50,085 awarded, 61 employees to be trained, and five new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

MANSFIELD

HR Knowledge, $39,808 awarded, 36 employees to be trained, and four new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

Hub Folding Box Company, Inc., $40,800 awarded, 248 employees to be trained, and 12 new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

NEW BEDFORD

Greater New Bedford Workforce Investment Board, Inc., $208,969 awarded, 281 employees to be trained, and six new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training. This is a consortium grant facilitated by the Greater New Bedford Workforce Investment Board to train the employees of Attentive Home Care, Inc. of Marion and Greater New Bedford Community Health Center, Inc. of New Bedford.

Greater New Bedford Workforce Investment Board, Inc., $207,979 awarded, 217 employees to be trained, 32 new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training. This is a consortium grant facilitated by the Greater New Bedford Workforce Investment Board to train the employees of Coastline Elderly Services, Inc. of New Bedford and Personal Touch Home Care of North Dartmouth.

NEWTON

Wingate Management Company, $188,053 awarded, 160 employees to be trained, and 25 new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

NORWOOD

Absolute Metal Finishing, $37,200 awarded, 30 employees to be trained, and two new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

POCASSET

Globe Interconnect, $33,600 awarded, 12 employees to be trained, and two new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

RANDOLPH

Industrial Precision Coating, $29,200 awarded, 13 employees to be trained, and three new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

SALEM

Endodynamix, Inc., $10,000 awarded, five employees to be trained, and 10 new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

SALISBURY

Eastern Mass Machined Products, Inc., $52,300 awarded, 14 employees to be trained, and two new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

SOUTHBOROUGH

KAZ USA, Inc., $162,685 awarded, 68 employees to be trained, and six new jobs are expected to be created as a result of training.

台山同鄉支持李素影參選波市議員


台山同鄉聯誼會昨(七)日在帝苑大酒樓舉行每月茶會。不下四名候選人趕場出席,拜會拉票。多數台山鄉親表示,當然支持自己人李素影,至於其他候選人到底是誰,還是“矇查查”。
            波士頓市今年的選舉,由於已在位廿年的波士頓市長萬寧路(Tom Menino)決定不再競選連任,霎時間群雄並起,候選人林立。九月廿四日的初選,把12名市長候選人篩剩2人,把19名不分區市議員候選人篩剩8人後,選情仿佛單純些,但競爭仍激烈。各候選人的支持者獲悉台山同鄉聯誼會每月第一個週一,固定在帝苑大酒樓舉行茶會,昨日就是十月份的茶會後, 紛紛請託,安排出席。
            台山同鄉聯誼會昨日的這鄉親敘舊聚會,因此搖身變為競選茶會,波士頓市長候選人暨麻州現任眾議員馬丁華殊(Martin Walsh),波士頓市不分區市議員候選人柯歐(Martin J. Keogh),米高法拉提(Michael Flaherty),波市第二區市議員候選人李素影(Suzanne Lee),全都現身會場。
            李素影昨日首先到場發言,以台山話說明自己在台山馬尾湖村出生,二歲時離開家鄉。儘管她祖父早於1906年,父親也於1930年就已來美,但礙於當年的排華法案,婦女不准入境,逼令她與父親分隔兩地。李素影表示,這都是不好的法令所造成的結果,所以她決定出來競選,訂立好法令,幫助人民。
            李素影也說明,自己從七十年代還在唸大學時,就進華埠教車衣工人英文,後來還創辦了華人前進會。如今她已從昆士小學校長一職退休,決定參選波士頓市第二區市議員,要幫助選民發聲,為民眾服務。
            波士頓市不分區市議員候選人柯歐(Martin J. Keogh)由華埠主街主席余俊明陪同出席拜票。他以廣東話的早晨,你好,問候台山鄉親,再以英文說明自己很喜歡李素影。他競選的是共有四個席位的不分區市議員,希望座中眾人能把四張票中的一張投給他,就行了。
            馬丁華殊發言,有兩個人幫他翻譯,謝婉文譯廣東話,余俊明譯台山話。他表示知道華埠清潔,可負擔住宅,華埠圖書館等議題,對華埠民眾的重要性,三個月前他拜會華埠時就做過承諾,一旦他當選市長,他一定和華埠領袖,華埠主街等人與機構合作,以期做決定時能包括華埠民眾意見,讓民眾能獲得所需資訊,繼續居住在華埠內。他也稱許李素影,吳弭等市議員候選人,希望民眾能在十一月五日的大選時,記得投票給他,選票上的2號。
        台山同鄉聯誼會會長李照桃,副會長吳子瑞等人透露,該會約有會員九百人,其中大概二,三百人住在波士頓市。 諸如美順樓,史頓樓,南灣東座等,都有許多老人家。
            昨日出席茶會的台山鄉親,會後閒談,笑說投票時一定會投李素影一票,但那些“老番”,實在分不清哪個是哪個。其中有人坦承,來美十餘年,但英文不行,沒入籍,還沒有投票權;也有人坦白說,實在搞不清楚那些候選人都是誰,政綱如何,多年來還只在選總統時投過票。
            當天以義工身份出席的華人前進會員工鄺寶蓮也意外發現,會中竟然還是有人已有公民身份,卻從未登記成選民。她感慨表示,華人社區中還需加強選民教育。

波城僑胞不畏風雨 近千人撐傘遊行慶雙十

 (Boston Orange 周菊子波士頓報導) “波士頓強,台灣壯”,“冰雪風雨都不怕”。近千名僑胞,學生,昨(六)日冒雨,撐傘,遊行, 從波士頓華埠天下為公牌樓,浩浩蕩蕩的遊到波士頓市政府廣場,升起青天白日滿地紅旗幟,慶祝中華民國102生日,場面動人。

      大波士頓僑界今年早從七月就開始籌劃雙十慶祝活動,並於近日協調確定,將有逾四十個團體組隊參加,其中的海外香港華人民主人權促進會,新英格蘭台灣青年商會,劍橋合唱團,竹蜻蜓壘球俱樂部,都還是第一次組團參加。正好來波士頓做慶祝雙十展演的台灣巧藝團,也有團長王宏隆,藝師巫俊德,李明龍,參加了新英格蘭中文學校協會的遊行團隊。

      從四面八方來的遊行隊伍,昨日一大早就把華埠牌樓旁的必珠街,乞臣街,華埠公園擠得人頭湧湧,旗幟飄揚,人聲語喧的熱鬧非常。一路上儘管天空飄落的雨勢漸大, 人們陸續戴起帽子,撐起傘來,不時還得抹去臉上的水珠,但在華林派及中華民俗藝術工作坊的鑼鼓喧天聲,美國民兵的震耳欲聾槍炮聲中前進,卻都走得十分高興。青天白日滿地紅旗幟和星條旗,都搖得熱絡。

      在遊行籌備人陳毓禮動用關係下,昨日的升旗典禮,有麻州眾議員麥家威(Aaron Michlewitz),波士頓市議員林乃肯(Bill Linehan),以及刻正競選波士頓市不分區市議員的弭(Michelle Wu)出席致賀。
      林乃肯指出,他的一對雙胞胎子女就是十月十日出生的,這天不但是個誌記民主的重要日子,對他來也是個幸運日。
      弭以國語致詞,讓會場中來自台灣群眾感到格外親切。她表示自己的父母也來自台灣台北,1983年才來美國。她很榮幸今日有這機會來參加這盛會。

      昨日的慶祝雙十,遊行升旗活動,由於雨勢影響,主辦單位安排群眾抵達廣場後,擠進市府廣場的騎樓進行儀式。礙於場地有限,許多團體根本擠不到看得見致詞者或表演的位置,包括紐英崙客家親會會長陳裕逢滿臉帶笑的抗議,索性和遭遇同樣情況的新英格蘭台灣商會會長胡美惠等各自聚談起來,倒並沒有太多人離開,會場因而仍然熱鬧得很。

      昨日安排的舞台表演,由中華廣教學校校長曾秀芬,董事長蔡倩婷親自下場,與廣教學校鼓樂隊一起擂鼓“普天同慶”開幕,致詞後由石家孝,陳家驊,王競芳,司徒文信擔任升旗手,在升旗台上冉冉升起青天白日滿地紅旗幟。
      表演部分,有中華民俗藝術工作坊的“台灣心滋味”,紐英崙中華藝術協會傳統中國舞蹈團演出“歡慶”,波士頓元極舞聯誼會跳“快樂元極操”,以及台灣山地舞表演等。
      整個慶祝活動,最後在全體大合唱“中華民國頌”,“梅花”聲中結束。

      今年的慶祝雙十遊行,一大特色是老少中青,全員出動。隊伍中既有多名年逾八十的僑領,包括阮陳金鳳,陳毓璇, 陳毓禮,李伍綺蓮等人,也有中華民俗藝術工作坊的小班學員,以及波士頓安良工商會藍衫軍中,由爸媽牽著小手遊行的小朋友。以顏色論,最搶眼的是波士頓榮光會的黃背心,以人數論,聲勢最壯大的是會長林安發動所率領的新英格蘭台灣同學會聯合會150人大隊。

王宏隆率團訪波展台灣剪紙,捏麵巧藝

"台灣巧藝揚"支援海外慶祝雙十,派出三人代表團,訪問紐約,波士頓,華府。五日下午在波士頓僑教中心舉辦文化導覽日,展示一刀流剪影法及捏麵人。
      台灣巧藝場秘書長王宏隆率捏麵人藝師巫俊德,剪紙藝師李銘龍在三到六日的波士頓訪問期間,不但進了兩所主流學校,蔚藍(Wayland)中學,康可(Concord)中學去展示中國傳統民藝,還與新英格蘭中文學校協會合作,特地在波士頓僑教中心會址,辦一場展示會,即席示範,不到一分鐘就可剪出個人肖像,不到三分鐘,就可捏出人像,或各種造型的捏麵藝術。
      王宏隆本人這次沒親自下場擺攤展藝,但拿著iPad,即席為人以各人姓名撰寫藏頭詩。 他以經文處副處長陳銘俊的姓名為例,即席寫出“銘記台灣外交心,俊傑益志盡忠誠”的詩句,惹得到場各人驚嘆不已。
      李明龍有40年的剪紙經驗,在台灣的高雄愛河一帶,早就以30秒就能剪出一幅人頭肖像而名聞遐邇,加入台灣巧藝場後,更把這門中國的民俗技藝發揚到國外去了。
      巫俊德的捏麵人技術師承自父親,如今在彰化溪湖開有巫家捏麵館,也是台灣的第一家私人地方文化館。他透露,在美國德拉瓦州,有一名隨他學藝兩個月就出師了的徒弟,已在當地開館授徒,有不少學生。
      巫俊德指出,捏麵的技法分為揉、搓、壓、捏、捲、點、貼、黏、包, 使用糯米粉、麵粉等混合而成的麵土,中加有特殊材料,可延長捏麵工藝品的保存時間。
       當天出席活動者有人發現,巫俊德所用的麵土,似乎更容易揉捏。他也透露,美國本地的麵土容易斷裂,的確不如他家自製的材料好用。不過目前他家品還未外銷,海外買不到。
       當天的出席者還從王宏隆那兒聽來捏麵人源由的故事。他,那是源自北方的民俗技藝,後傳至南方。因為主要材料是麵粉,加入江南特”江米“,因此稱為“江米人”,還有“米雕”一。至於捏麵人這習俗,據源自三國時期諸葛孔明令廚師以米麵為皮,包牛肉,馬肉,捏成人頭模樣,丟入江中做祭品,得以順利渡江。後代人因此稱孔明為捏麵人的祖師爺。
      台灣巧藝場的三人代表團,昨日參加大波士頓的雙十遊行及餐會後,昨日轉往華府,繼續展演行程。

俞敏洪:中國創新力量在民間


哈佛大學中國學生學者聯合會創業俱樂部三日晚舉辦的“贏在中國”講座,讓數百聽眾在數度哄堂大笑中沈思“傻B”哲學,細想怎樣才能培養眼界,遠見,琢磨中國創新力量在民間的意義。
            這場在哈佛大學政府及國際研究中心蔡氏禮堂舉辦的講座,邀有哈佛大學文理學院研究生院首位華裔院長孟曉犁為開幕致詞,安排了高盛集團首要投資區執行總經理柳青做主持,請來分享經驗的三名中國企業家俱樂部成員,分別為北京大學企業家俱樂部暨新東方教育及科技集團創辦人俞敏洪,依文集團董事長夏華,用友軟件董事長王文京講談創業經驗。
            熟悉中國的人都知道,新東方是中國,也是全世界最大的學習培訓機構;依文集團是中國著名的男性時裝品牌集團;用友軟件則是亞洲最大的管理軟體供應商。
        曾任中國全國政協委員,1993年創辦新東方,被稱為20世紀影響中國的25位企業家之一,早年在北京大學當講師,1962年出生的俞敏洪,能說善道,當晚滔滔不絕。
            他以自己當年參加高考,連考兩次都失利,但不識字的農民母親認定教育具改造力量,不惜自己承擔起更多農務工作,堅持要他專心讀書的再試為例,指出“知識不等於眼界”,有作為的人要培養自己的眼界。
            俞敏洪談笑風生,舉了很多例子,指出真正的領袖,有創新思維,敢大膽嚐試,懂得用人,可不見得要凡事都自己會做。包括吉利汽車董事長李書福懂不了多少機械工程,卻懂農民的務實心理,不講究品牌,從兩個輪子拼起來就成摩托車,四個輪子加蓋,就成汽車的大膽敢試,竟也在汽車這平常人不敢碰的領域,闖出一片天。馬雲創辦出中國的電子商務王國,卻至今不願自己上網。
            俞敏洪強調,創新關鍵不在於技術的更新,或知識的增加,最重要的是思維上的突破。最簡單的做法,往往出自於最複雜的考慮。他認為中國未來的創新力量在民間, 鼓勵學子要相信個人奮鬥的力量,把苦難磨練當財富,有跳出現有環境的勇氣。
            他在發言結束前,還說了個故事,笑說中國正如故事中的女孩,如果學子們不懂得中國的心,將如故事中的男孩,孤獨一生。
            當晚的另兩名講者,1964年出生的王文京頗為低調,簡單表示自己從20多歲開始做起,憑著願景,毅力,勤奮,以及適時的智慧,走到今日這地步。1991年才從中國政法大學畢業的夏華,坦言她母親和俞敏洪的母親一樣有遠見,家中十幾名兄弟姐妹,因母親的堅持,有五人完成大學學業。她為追求自己的熱情,從銷售員做起,走上創建品牌這條路。
