GOP Committeewoman Says “She Can’t Think of Anything Negative” About The Bill. Do Shortsleeve and Kennealy Agree?
BOSTON – New reporting out today shows that as the real-life impacts of Donald Trump’s so-called “Big, Beautiful Bill,” take effect - delivering massive tax giveaways to the wealthy while gutting Medicaid and food assistance - Massachusetts Republican lawmakers and candidates for Governor have chosen the coward’s path: silence.
As families across Massachusetts and the country prepare for services to be slashed while billionaires get rewarded, not a single prominent Massachusetts Republican has found the backbone to speak up, including Republican gubernatorial candidates Brian Shortsleeve and Mike Kennealy.
In fact, Massachusetts Republicans are touting the benefits of the bill with one Republican Committeewoman, Janet Fogarty, telling MASSterlist that she “can’t think of anything that is negative” about the bill.
“While Donald Trump is cutting health care and taking away food from Massachusetts families, the Republican candidates for governor are nowhere to be found,” said Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Steve Kerrigan. “In fact, the only Republican speaking up is the Committeewoman who said she can’t think of anything negative about Donald Trump’s awful bill. Do Shortsleeve and Kennealy agree? Silence in the face of cruelty isn’t leadership, it’s complicity.”
