MIT師生集會誓捐4萬小時維護社會正義

發起行動組織的公開信:
Despite being a leader in technological and policy innovation, MIT’s community has largely remained silent on issues of social justice over the last few decades. Today, November 21, members of the MIT community broke that silence. Over 300 students, faculty, and staff gathered in front of Killian Court this afternoon in solidarity with marginalized communities, the working class, and the environment. Together, we reaffirmed, to ourselves as well as to the world, the core values of scientific validity and social justice that our community rests upon. (drafted here)

With raw political energy pulsing through our campus, we— members from a diverse set of student groups listed below— aim to break through the fog of political apathy created as a byproduct of a broken political system. Over 200 MIT community members pledged to commit at least two hours a week for the next two years--totalling over 40,000 hours--to taking tangible action toward supporting the common cause of social justice and creating a democracy that better serves the needs of all its constituents. We see this as the beginning of an era for political engagement at MIT.

Community members will bring their expertise in fields encompassing not only science and technology but also humanities and social sciences to create solutions. Together, we will work towards making an MIT a beacon not just of scientific innovation, but of social justice.

If you are interested in more information about the event, we have video footage of the speakers--which range from student to faculty--as well members of the community singing in solidarity with the those who are targeted in the current political climate. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Solidarity@MIT
