to
Hold Boston-Based Program to Manage Patient Concerns About Falls
2015
(BOSTON) – Tufts Medical Center’s Trauma Center once again has partnered with
Multicultural Home Care (MCHC) to offer A Matter of Balance:
Managing Concerns About Falls to Cantonese-speaking senior citizens in the Boston-area.
The interactive program, which is taught in Cantonese, is designed to reduce
the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Participants
learn to set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to
reduce fall risk factors and learn simple exercises to increase strength and
balance. MCHC will sponsor the event by providing participants with a study
workbook and refreshments.
Fear
of falling can be just as dangerous as falling itself. People who develop this
fear often limit their activities, which can result in severe physical
weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. Many older adults also
experience increased isolation and depression when they limit their
interactions with family and friends. A Matter of Balance can help
people improve their quality of life and remain independent.
A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls will be held
at Tufts Medical Center, 800 Washington Street in Boston, Mass. The program
begins on June 8 and runs through June 18 from 10 a.m.-noon on select days.
Class size is limited to 8-12 people.
